[...]Does sitemaps have anything to do with GIS?
I am not 100% sure, but I don't think so.
I noticed once I converted to the new smugmug, my sitemaps dropped from like 31 to 9. However, I did change the layout of my site as well so that may have had something to do with it....who knows:bash
My sitemap is regulary updated every 7 days. Yours already is 12 days old. Not sure if this is a glitch or if SM only updates sitemaps, which have been changed recently.
But the entry for your site also lacks the so called sitemap-galleryimages sitemap. You might have an eye on this and/or ask a Hero about that.

I saw this thread the other day. I am not sure if we are just suppose to wait and the image sitemap should just show up next time its updated, or if we are suppose to add the sitemap manually?

We can't update / upload our self. Normally it is maintained automatically, but I am not sure if this only is done when the site structure has changed. Might be there is some delay at the moment.
You might add a folder or gallery and check if the sitemap is updated within the next week.

Your images will be indexed in the web results with RCP enabled, but not in the Google Image Search.
Michael, this post of yours is from mid-August, & I haven't read all the stuff that came since it in this thread. But I'm a little confused by the quote and would like a lot more clarity. Reason being, there has been a discussion going on in the Sitemap Thread, and that discussion needs a new and current clarification about Smug's exact policy now. I referenced a bunch of history in one of my posts, http://www.dgrin.com/showpost.php?p=1911986&postcount=300 mostly dating to April 2011 when a decision was made by Baldy & whoever else for SmugMug to start allowing indexing of RCPed images (not sure if that was just to GIS or to regular search) & start feeding Google Image Search small images (less than 800x600, according to Baldy) with RCP not carrying through to GIS. (i.e. our Smug-RCPed images would show up in GIS but they'd show up there w/o RCP) This was new-- before that, SmugMug had sort of accidentally assumed that those with RCP enabled wouldn't want this (to have their images come up in GIS), but then SmugMug realized most of us weren't even aware that RCP was the reason our images weren't showing up there.

Anyway, if you could be more clear about whether that policy has now changed, & if so, when, it would sure help us all, & would update that other thread http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=190216 with the latest, correct information.

    1. We would like to know exactly what SmugMug feeds to GIS (and other Image Searches) right now, on Legacy & New Smug. (i.e. What size images? And does it matter if they have or don't have RCP?)

    2. We'd like to know whether or not RCP is being carried through to GIS now (has that decision reverted back to SmugMug's old way of doing it, in other words? If so, that would explain why people's RCPed images are once again not being seen in GIS. And if so, SmugMug may want to re-think this, as that's not how most of us wanted it to work, according to SmugMug itself)

    3. And we would also like to know what indexing is being allowed in Search & Image Search, whether or not we have RCP turned on in SmugMug. (I apologize if I'm not using the correct language here or asking the wrong question; I don't completely comprehend indexing, crawling, etc. so don't even know if there's a difference between "allowing" some type of indexing or "feeding Google" something. Sorry! Please adjust that question as needed)

    Thank you.
