I've been laying in the weeds a few weeks waiting for the dust to settle and things to get fixed. Made an attempt at editing my layout and here's what happens:

picked isis

clicked entire site

clicked theme tab

clicked textures

clicked wood

clicked wrench on wood

changed primary color

clicked done

box stays open with red warning icon (i didn't name my theme)

named my theme "red barn wood"

clicked done - nothing happens. Red warning "please name your theme" remains.

click cancel, box closes

repeated entire process this time naming my theme before clicking done. Same thing. Click done, nothing happens, click cancel, box closes.

Do you have a Basic account? If so, you can tinker with those settings but you can't save them.

If you have a Power account or above, you need to contact SM Heroes.

Ok, bear with me here, I'm working from memory.

When I was upped from Basic to Power I had a similar WTF session - it looked like I still had only the Basic customisation options, and if I tinkered with a theme in the manner that you described I couldn't save it.

Then I found a button that I'd not had before. "Choose a Site Design". After choosing one, all of the customise/save options became functional.

    Hope that helps.

"choose site design" is the first step I took prior to attempting to pick the theme for the design. I just noticed that if you pick a theme and publish it without editing the theme, it "sticks" however if you attempt to edit the theme and fail, you lose the theme and it goes back to the SM default.

That's the bit that was missing from my memory.

    Are you sorted now?

Nope, it's definitely a bug or maybe a browser incompatibility.

Firefox 13.01 on Mac OS 10.8.3

Your situation sounds a bit similar to >>> http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=237760 , I don't know if that one was resolved.
