Make unlisted or private gallery accessible

LensView

I have one private gallery that I want to share with just one person (password protected, read-only, downloads allowed). Whatever I set, the friendly URL only returns a 404 Error. How do I configured this?

"private" means only you as owner will ever see it. Set it to unlisted, password protected.

galleries set to Private are only available to the site owner. If you want to make a gallery available to someone else it must be set to either Public or Unlisted.

From the help page at http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1229910-new-smugmug-what-are-the-gallery-level-privacy-settings-:

Private Galleries/Pages/Folders are TOTALLY private. They can ONLY be accessed by the logged in owner of the site. There is not a way to share a Private gallery.

It doesn't work.
The gallery is unlisted now and password protected. "Page not found" ... it doesn't even ask for the password. Here's the URL: http://www.captalumina.com/Private/Gibbs

I tried unlisted without password. Same problem.

Maybe it's because it's in a private folder?

If it's in a private folder the folders and galleries in that folder are also private.

Permissions - public / unlisted / private flow down the folder hierarchy. You can have a private or unlisted gallery in a public folder and it will act as expected, but keep in mind that if a folder is restricted that restriction flows down to the gallery level.

I think I found it now.
First, I had to enable sharing to get the correct link (which is the same with some random letters attached). Then, I had to put the gallery effectively under an unlisted but not private folder. Under a private folder, even though the gallery was only unlisted, it always said I couldn't share because the gallery was private. Which wasn't true, only the folder above was private.

Exactly what I found out now!
But the message "because the gallery is private" isn't quite correct. It should have said "because the parent folder is private".

Actually the gallery was private as well. If you had looked in the security section for the gallery, it should have said Inheriting (private).
