Public Photos in Smart Gallery Not On Home Page

I apologize if this has been covered elsewhere, but I couldn't seem to find a definitive answer that pertains specifically to the new version of SmugMug.

Here's the problem: I've set up a public gallery and added photos to it from a password-protected gallery using smart rules. I then placed a few of the photos from the public gallery on my home page. When a visitor views my page, they do not see the photos I placed on the home page, but they can browse to the public gallery and view the photos without entering a password. Is this the expected behavior?

On a related note, I thought maybe a way to get around this issue would be to use the collect feature (instead of smart rules) to populate the public galleries, but the "bulk collection" feature seems to have been removed. Is that true?

Thanks for the help.

Can't help with your main problem but I can confirm that there's no bulk collecting tool in the New SM regime. There's a thread about it at http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=238250 - and if you read post #33 there you'll find a workaround thumb.gif
    Yippee ki-yay, footer-muckers!

    HI

Even if you collect photo into a public gallery they will retain the settings from the original gallery. So they will still have a password on them, and won't be visible when used on your homepage for logged out folks.

You can make copies of your photos, and move the copies around. That way you can have the same photo in one gallery with a password, and in another gallery completely public. Here's some help with making copies: http://help.smugmug.com/customer/portal/articles/1225669-photo-tools

Please let us know if there is anything we can help you with.

AWF, thanks for posting about this privacy/collection issue and stating it so clearly.
I was about to post the same inquiry, as I believe this "worked" in the legacy site.
Though I see how one could argue the privacy could work either way, it was confusing b/c
I didn't realize it would be an issue until AFTER I published and viewed outside of being logged in.

So is creating a unlisted/no-password gallery and copying images to it the best way to accomplish this?
As that is what I have resorted to at the moment. Or is there a better solution, or any plans to investigate a better (collect vs copy) solution?

Thanks for the reply Nick and clarifying how collecting photos works. As far as copying, I wouldn't be adverse to that, but I don't see specifically how to do that in the link you sent over. Preferably I'd like to be able to copy a bunch of items from a password-protected gallery and move them to a non-protected one, but I'd settle for being able to copy them individually. Thanks again.
