Like button is gone

I haven't got any likes on my pictures for a long time. Today I discovered that when I am logged out there is no thumb sign below the images, so it is impossible to "like" my images. All my galleries allow likes, and I haven't added any CSS that removes it as I know. Does anyone know what could be wrong?

Interesting. The like button is gone from my site too.

    Like button is gone
It appears that the like button is gone from all members, even on galleries that allow likes. It looks like an error on the server side.

You beat me to it ... The "Show Off" and Like buttons have been removed to avoid some confusion around the button and to simplify the user interface. There was no way to see who liked your photos or even how many people had liked a particular photo. Page rankings remain unchanged.

Does this like button deletion ruin the Smugmug Popular Today page?

Photo views, comments, comment score, and other factors continue to attribute to a photos' rank; the Popular Today page should still function as it has in the past.

Think I have to leave SmugMug if the like button doesn't come back. There is no way left for visitors to interact, except sending me an email to say they like my pictures. I never get any feedback anymore. I feel my site lives on a desert island in the Internet ocean.

We have every intention of bringing it back, and more. As it existed, people could like your photos but there was no way to do anything with that: you couldn't see who liked it, you couldn't see how many people liked it, etc. We'd like to solve that and make interacting with your photos a whole lot better. Stay tuned!

Aaron, the Smugmug > Popular > Today page seems to no longer be populated with photos. It has been that way for at least two days now.

The Popular Today page is related to an issue we had over the weekend. Our current ETA for having it fixed is by tomorrow (Wed, 2015-08-26) evening. I'll try to keep you updated as we work to resolve the issue.

We will be using our regularly-scheduled maintenance window to give SmugMug some TLC tonight from 10pm - 10:45pm. It should resolve the Popular Today issue but we'll know more after the updates are pushed today. Thanks for your understanding!

Any target as to when the "Like button" will re-appear? (This is a relatively big deal from my perspective.) Thanks!

I'd like to know as well. I've finally moved all of my photos and galleries to SmugMug and now I have people asking why they can't "like" specific photos.

We're hard at work on some things we think you will like, but we aren't quite at the point where we can work on the liking aspects of your photos. I'll be sure to update you all when we do. In the mean time, you can still add the Facebook / Social Media like buttons under your photos

Thanks for the update, appreciate it.

BTW, you can add social media buttons to individual photos? I only know how to do that for a gallery as a whole, not for the individual photos. Or is that what you meant?

Every year I create a "favorites" smart gallery... combining date and popular to show what images from that year were most popular. Last year's favorites gallery was a bit sparse because the new smug like button was pretty small and it was never clear what it was for (never was a problem in old smug). Now without a like button, this year's favorites gallery has a whopping 2 pictures in it. I thought the idea here was that you'd use other parameters to determine what photos were most popular. Obviously comments/ratings are useless because of the login requirement, so what else is there? This is broken. Why take features away before replacements are ready to go?

    Popular Photos
The option for viewers to "thumbs up"/like a photograph has been removed.

    http://www.markwweston.com/Popular

It does not look like any of the photographs on this page have changed since that feature was removed. It does not look like photo view stats have any impact on my Popular Photos.

Likewise, the popular today collection of all Smugmug pics are no longer voted upwards to give the casual viewer an inspiring set. They are now a random pick of shots and collected seemingly without any reason. There probably is some code to select them, but there is no longer purpose behind them. Until they give back the voting feature, there is no reason to go there. Several days back, there were 16 pages from one person's wedding gallery, and they were boring. That's not due to thousands of people all over the world voting shots to the top. But load up SM popular today anyway, to see if I'm wrong.

Is this feature really going to return?
This feature has been missing for quite some time now. Is it really coming back in an improved format or have we lost it forever? My Popular Photos page ( http://www.markwweston.com/Popular ) has not changed since this feature was removed.

In the future we'll be turning our attention back to Engagement, but we're currently working on some other exciting projects. Give us some more time and you'll see us come back to this. I can't promise that the "like" button will be back, but we certainly want to ensure that your Popular page doesn't stay stale and will have a number of ideas on how to do that.

My Popular Photos page http://www.weston.photos/Popular has not changed in about 1 YEAR. Am I correct in understanding that our own Popular Photos pages were only populated by our long missing LIKE photo option? It seems like photo views has no impact on my Popular Photos page. Am I correct? Any insights or time lines regarding when our Popular Photos pages will come back to life? Thank you,
