I wanted to share a few of my favorite images of CAPTIVE birds in this thread. Even though it's not terribly challenging to obtain decent results in these types of environments, I still enjoy the careful consideration of favorable angles and compositions that allow the subject to appear, well, less captive!
Tony, I think you're achieving / satisfying your own 'mission statement' re the type of pic you're after to a very high degree - well done.
Had never heard of the guy - from some of the w/life examples I saw, I reckon he got / gets lazy

I really appreciate your comment, Paul.
I hope the regular contributors here and the visiting public take the time to view your website. Your photographs are sterling examples of an individual who truly cares about his work. Wishing you continued success and happiness in your photography.
Thanks for dropping the knowledge Tony and kind words too! I am always happy when I learn something without trying too hard and best way is when someone who has already figured it out, tells you something!
In the latest sequence, all sweet, but last one is precious to me!

You're very welcome. You take excellent photographs. No, a flash was not used in this photograph. For shots like this one that feature a black background, let me know if you're ever interested in the strategies I use "in the field" to capture a good "foundation" image to work with during post-processing. I'd be happy to share them with you.
It's always great to share techniques and strategies and what motivates us in our photography. Instead of a specific section, I thought I might as well send you the complete link to a "hints & tips" page I created, which shares how I use my Canon SX50 and strive for the "look" I'm after in all of my photographs, including those that feature a black background.
