Reminds me of shot that K-dog took, which was a big moment for me, as I realized how to overlay things to make them pop!
This has that futuristic space vibe going on, combined with nature, all things that I love!
Thanks Gary... yes, it's a great time of year out there - I wanted to ride the tram to the top, but, 25 deg. and 8ft. of snow, and my wife's veto, kept us on the bottom.

Hey Taz!
Yes, that technique is very useful on this subject - easy to get lost on a non-contrasting background.
Cheers to you!
Thanks for commenting Sara!
It is a very surreal landscape in this area - there are hundreds (thousands?) of these devices scattered about.
Many styles and sizes, with the biggest ones making a very sci-fi humming whoosh as they spin.
I found them oddly fascinating, however, the locals seem to have accepted them as part of the "Super-Duper View"
The mountains in the first shot is beautiful. Those things are everywhere and as fascinating as they are - they sure can be an eye sore - but I guess it powers the people. wow - snow in PS!
Taz, Sara, AnnaMaria, Don, thanks very much for commenting - glad you liked the views!
AnnaMaria, I know you like snowy mountains - I saw your lovely posts in the Best-of-2015 thread.
So, here's another view of this one (San Jacinto)... without all those pesky white spinning things.
And yes, there is tons of snow on all the peaks around Palm Springs, and we had torrential El Nino-caused flash floods happening in the valley during our visit this week... it was wild in Cali for a few days.

Some great stuff, Eric. The last shot above ( no windmills ) is exceptionally good. The next to last windmill shot is flat terrific. I can just imagine that is an attack by an army of some strange creatures bearing down on my house. Gosh, I hope this is not an early sign of encroaching Alzheimer's.
Stay safe,
Tom
I always wanted to lie naked on a bearskin rug in front of a fireplace. Cracker Barrel didn't take kindly to it.

Hi Tom, thanks for looking-in and your fun, imaginative, interpretation... heck, I don't think you're losing your marbles 'cause I thought the same thing! (although, there's no guarantee that both of us are not slipping )
I recently watched the classic 1953 film War of the Worlds, and the creatures from Mars that were attacking all the folks are somewhat reminiscent of these devices... so, we should probably check with David for current invasion updates. :giggle
Your upcoming Alps excursion sounds exciting! Can't wait to see the photographs!
Best, Eric
I've never had access like that to a windfarm. And what a backdrop! :wow
Well done, sir. Very well done indeed.
Thanks so much Joel... you are too kind!
For access (nothing special) I found that I could get very close to the windmills along
one of the side roads in North Palm Springs as well as some less secured utility roads... no trespassing involved.
I remembered your image too (sweet shot!) and that was actually what motivated me to shoot the wind farm when I got by that way!
If I'm not mistaken, I think what Taz means by "overlay", is that in your composition you have the windmills against a dark background/sky - this causes them to 'pop' nicely.
the last one -- i think is super Duper! Beautiful!
Thanks again you guys, for the Super-Duper comments and feedback!!
Y'all made me feel successful because this was my first photo-outing after 3 months on the couch recovering from a broken leg...
I was shooting like a rookie out there, fumbling around with the gear and discovering whole sequences of shots with all the wrong settings... doh!
It's good to be back at-it! :ivar
Thanks for giving me a reason to visit Palm Springs again. I didn't realize it was possible to get in between the (banks of) windmills, guess I need to head down some unmarked roads.

Thanks Denise!
That image happens to be a long telephoto shot, but yes, you can get rather close to many of them...
I'll PM you the name of the road I used for your future reference...

Middle shot post #7 would also get my vote ...but I'd be even more interested to see this without the fg vegetation if possible.
As regards the subject matter, I've found it interesting to have the occasional shufties here to see what % of UK demand is being satisfied from different sources, including turbines.
Dunno about your side of the pond, but politicians here seem to forget about storage (on the GWh scale) of output from variable sources, when extolling their virtues?
Btw, the 'shape' of Xmas day's demand here was totally different from any other day that I've seen.

Thanks for commenting Paul... and yes, power generation is often a "political" issue over here too - most unfortunately imo.
Thank goodness though, we use the "correct" power over here... 60 wiggles instead of your inefficient 50 wiggles! - jk of course!

Thanks Carter! They are very impressive in-person - the sound and motion is quite unusual.
