So, this happened today...
I went to shoot this Agapanthus plant this morning, and I got photobombed by a Hummer...
I wasn't set-up for motion or DOF, so the shot isn't that great, but I got a kick out of it!
He actually startled me 'cause I was looking through the viewfinder and he zoomed in... I only hit the shutter button as a reflex... and zoom, he was gone.
That's awesome!
I was camping once, I think I was in Montana at the time - had the campground to myself. All of a sudden there were hummingbirds in the air. No camera handy but what an awesome feeling to have the tiny birds so close. I'm glad you were able to "catch" the hummer!

@Eric - congrats on the Hummer shot - very cool even though not perfect. Sometimes it doesn't need to be a perfect photo - one just needs to be THERE (like Denise on her camping trip.)
Can any of you bird experts tell me what this one is? It was taken on an October morning in 2011 near Fort Ross, California.

Thanks for the encouragement Sara!
My Hummingbird book says (and so my guess is) that is a male Anna's Hummingbird... very common in CA. Nice shot!
So, this is the Agapanthus (Lily of the Nile) shot I was aiming for yesterday - happened today instead, with no interlopers... Light was better too...
I just love this flower, especially un-opened like this - it has an Alien appearance to me... an eerie glow... like pods about to hatch... I've probably seen too many movies...
RE: Hummingbird @Taz, I'm not sure if you meant me ir Eric, but thanks anyway
@ Eric, thanks for the Hummingbird type - I'll add it to the photo caption right away! I confess to being smart about many things cultural, but about things having to do with nature such as bird and flower types I'm a bit underinformed.
That hummingbird was just sitting still for what seems like ages. I had my long zoom on the camera and pulled it out to 400mm and balanced the camera on a fence post for stability. I think I took about 20 frames and one or two turned out.
RE: Other pics
@ Eric - love that Agapanthus shot - beautiful light and focus.
@ Pegelli - that little lizard is FAB!
If I say it once, I'll say it 100 times - this is a great thread!

Thank you Eric
Although I got some more similar shots in that spring day, this one was just pure luck.
