Watermarks and different image sizes

I have searched and read up on watermarks with SM, but there is a lot of old information out there and a lot of (to me) confusing information.

I want to add a watermark to my images regardless of the size of image. My images range from 4,000 px to 14,000 px, so I am struggling how to get a good clean looking watermark added to handle vertical/horizontal - big and small images.

I have tried adding a watermark, but it gets up-scaled to the larger images which looks horrible.

Appreciate some help in the best way of doing this

Can you give me some examples of a watermark that was upscaled and doesn't look quite right?

@leftquark - I thought I had fixed this, by...

My maximum display size is X4, so I created a PNG 2048 x 2048 with the logo positions and sized how I would like it.
I then applied this to all images

however, the logo is still being resized - not so bad this time, but still resizing - so sometimes its looks too big; sometimes too small; and sometimes just right (sounds like Goldilocks and the 3 bears!)

Have a look at these images; the first is where the logo looks OK, the second is where it has gone (to me) too big...

Basically, as the logo is being scaled (I put up a 1x1 logo to handle both portrait and landscape images) it is messing with the size. Surely there must be a way to put a consistent logo size on to all images ? We are trying to present professional, clean artistic images and site; but I feel the logo changing size between images make it look a bit; well.. amateurish :-(

The watermark itself is the same size on both images, but since the 2nd photo is square (less width), was your hope that it would be smaller, and therefore not appear "too big"?

P.S: How was Lofoton?! I leave next Thursday for 2 days in Iceland and then 7 days in Lofton! Super excited for the trip!

@leftquark - yes, I ideally want the watermark to be the same size on all images. I am assuming we can't do that :-(

Lofoten is wonderful, especially at this time of the year. I was there first week of February and the light was fantastic. I need to go back soon, and next time I want to go a few weeks earlier - even shorter days, but (hopefully) even better light. You will really enjoy it. Iceland is great as well !
