Hahahahah!
At the entrance to the parking lot of my local pro shop, which is I think all Canon shooters, there's a sign that says "Parking for _______ only" with a big blank for them to obviously put their company logo or something. I'm DYING to put a big fat NIKON sticker there, it would be hilarious!
But seriously folks! Andy and everyone else is right. We know how to poke fun, but we also know how to be serious. We all know that at the end of the day, brand accounts for a miniscule aspect of your captured vision. I've always said, my most essential tools are my vision, my alarm clock, my tripod, and my camera, in that order.
I don't hide it- I have a Nikon. But you know what? I don't necessarily "prefer" it over the 20D or the 350D which I have also shot with many times. I can adapt to the controls rather quickly, and it is just another tool. I simply jive better with the Nikon controls, I think. But I've always said, if I had buckets of money I'd go out and buy ALL the systems and then pick which one is the best. I'm positive I'd end up with a 5D and a 135mm f/2 (ooooohhhhh) for weddings, and I highly doubt I'd be able to part with a D2X if I were to take it out birding...
Personally the camera that best fits my bill is the D200. If the 30D were to come out with a few cool things like spot metering, dedicated button MLU, and maybe some attempt at weather sealing, I'd definitely think about it. It will most likely cost less than the D200. And admittedly, one of the MOST USEFUL pieces of equipment I posess is Canon. In all honesty, I have never seen ANY Nikon competition whatsoever to this wonderful piece of equipment...
Maybe rent them for a whole week, maybe rent them a few weekends in a row, but this is the BEST way to decide which camera to buy. All the internet advice in the world is no help if you don't hold the camera
But like I said, the best thing to do is to do some serious time with all the models you're thinking of buying. It will be worth the money.

Great idea. Before Bob potentially changes camera brands, costing thousands - rental is the right plan. Huge decision.
Calumet has supplied me rental gear at mostly reasonably fees for a few years.
I knew, of course, that trees and plants had roots, stems, bark, branches and foliage that reached up toward the light. But I was coming to realize that the real magician was light itself.

Choosing between the two cameras is a tough deal. I would have thought your investment in Canon glass would have swayed you to the 5D. The professional build quality of the D2X is appealing.
Obviously, it will come down to getting your hands on each and seeing which better complements you. They both seem to be excellent machines.
If you have the glass... why not think 1D Mark II N & a 20D and change to spare??!!!
An N, a few L's and a bounch of #'s that let me 'see' better...

Come on 20D owners ...post some ISO 1600 & ISO 3200 stuff so we can let the world see how these kelloggs nikon flake specials really start to flounder when the heat is on.

Oh I don't know Gus, think you might need to put another shrimp on the barbe and chill a bit.
Golly Gus that is terrible. Here in the states we have had yellow fever licked for years now.

Ho hum, Canon high ISO shots. Jeez if you had a decent flash you wouldn't need those high ISOs.
If you had a camera that could catch the action you could get a series of action shots.
I left out the other 6 shots in this sequence.

Very Nice Rutt, indeed
however predictable and pretty easily to anticapte. Try a fast not so predictable instance :uhoh
I think Nikon will deliver the final blow, while the Canon crew is using there calculators to determine ............ oh never mind it's already happened :lol4 :lol

What have you got at 3200 to seal the job ?
Hey Hummie... I hear alot of talk, but no images from you. So?... (BTW, I don't shoot @ 1600ISO. So, don't ask for those from me.)
We get 300+ days a year of full sun here.
If i have my CP on the 400 f/5.6 very late in the arvo i will use ISO400 to keep it at 1/1000 on surfers.
I gave up on bands as my ears cant hack it anymore.
