warmth and butterflies!
Last week I felt a need for warmth and color. In early February (close to home) I can't satisfy that need outdoors so I headed to the Magic Wings Butterfly Conservatory in South Deerfield, MA.
I walked in and stood still for a few minutes before I started to wander, enjoying the warmth, watching butterflies flit about, feeling the touch of the beautiful creatures as they occasionally landed on me.
I'm always happy to share space with butterflies!
1 :: a Cairns birdwing butterfly
2 :: a glasswing butterfly (greta oto) and a malachite butterfly
3 :: emerging from a chrysalis, as seen behind glass
4 :: a bit of camoflage
5 :: two
It's always a bit of a challenge to capture these delicate flying creatures; some stay still for a while, others are in a state of constant movement.
More butterflies from this visit can be seen in the gallery flitter, flutter, butterfly! 2018. All photos were taken with a Fuji X-T2 and the Fuji XF 80mm f/2.8 macro.

They're beautiful creatures, Denise, and you captured them well. I particularly like the glasswing in the second shot.

lovely set you have here. I especially like images 1,4 and 5. I too can get lost in a butterfly conservatory shooting the lil butterflies. Unfortunately, we do not have one here in this part of Alaska. However, in the summer there is an abundance of yellow swallowtail butterflies as well as tons of moths with wonderful color display. It's harder to get images of them when they can escape too far away. I have visited quite a few conservatories in the Caribbean and in the jungle of Costa Rica.
Thank you Joyce! These wonderful creatures seem to be much easier to capture in a conservatory. I look forward to seeing them in the garden outside this summer but I always enjoy my conservatory fix@

Missed this post in the past - Love all the images, but one critter just sparkles to me. It's the one on the left in photo #2, I think the glasswing. Scanning the notes above, I see I'm not alone - We have an exhibit here in L.A. I must check to see if it's still the season! You've given me the bug; just spotted the pun, not intended

Yes, that's the glasswing.
I highly recommend visiting if there is a butterfly exhibit near you.

Nice work. Not many would bother with the pupae shot.
