Mini-Challenge #284 Stunning Silhouettes!

lkbartlkbart Registered Users Posts: 1,912 Major grins

Looks like the last time silhouettes was a theme in the minis was in 2012, so here we go again! I prefer the silhouettes to be a strong contrast in the photos and I prefer colorful photos; no limits on editing; see examples below.

Rules can be found at this link: https://dgrin.com/discussion/248032/mini-challenge-un-official-rules AND please keep in mind that if your image is selected as the winner, you have the responsibility to create the next challenge.

This challenge will run through Sunday, May 26, at 10pm (UTC-5).

Examples:
Metropolitan Ballet's first Nutcracker promo art

Grandma's rose bowl

Cat walk

Iris Dragon

Winter trees are colorful too!

Connections

Cain & Abel

Salem

Viscereality

Love the subject of this mini. Here are my entries:

Grandaughter's first pregnancy photo shoot - this one didn't relate to pregnancy, but they liked the shot.

Sunset through the Walnut Trees - Foresthill, Ca

Old Oak tree - with a little Glowing edges added (Well, you said 'no limits to editing' )

The last one was really the opposite of this one because I thought that what he really wanted was not sunset photos. (I don't remember why I thought so, but almost everyone submitted the kind of photos that this mini calls for and I don't think they were the preferred images.) So I will gladly look for colorful ones this time.

I submitted my favorite silhouette I've ever taken in that 2012 contest--so I am going to avoid it in order to post more recent shots. :) Here are my submissions:

    1. View from the Porch, near Kapoho Bay on the Big Island, Hawaii. (Note: If I read the maps correctly, this view from our rental home was decimated last summer during the remarkable volcanic eruption.)

These next two shots were taken by me and designed by me. I am a theatre director and professor. I sometimes make use of silhouettes on stage during scenic transitions and as a creative solution to some technical challenges. In the first, I using a combination of live silhouettes of performers on stage and shadow puppets to create the illusion of a flying nanny. In the second, I was using the classic image of a dog on his doghouse to evoke a familiar motif from the Peanuts comic strip.

    1. Farewell, Poppins. (from "Mary Poppins: the Broadway Musical")

    2. The Red Baron. (from "You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown")

This one I share just for fun, because it brings back good memories--it does not meet your color requirement, so ignore it for the concert.

What a neat challenge, and a stunning set of images! This is a bit of a mind-bender for me, since my instinct is to convert silhouettes to black and white. But I did find a few that qualify

    1. Evening in Mazatlan

    1. Tree and fog

    1. Horse

Let me get my three in. I had big plans to go out and shoot three new entries, because I love shooting silhouettes.
However due to other priorities I failed miserable, so only 1 new and 2 old ones.

    1: Videographer

    2: In a natural tunnel

    3: And another videographer

I think I need to expand my horizons a bit since I don't have many silhouette photos, at least not with the silhouette being the subject of the photo. So I will make do with sunset photos that happen to include some silhouettes.

    1. Diamond head from the east northeast (not the classic view)
Dusk at Scenic Point, near Hanauma Bay

    2. Sunset stroll at Waikiki Beach

    3. Sunset sailboat, Waikiki Beach
