Hi Y'all,

I'm beginning to get acquainted with my new D2X. I do like this camera! When you use it right the shots ome out fine. It is a very unforgiving piece of equipment. You can't get sloppy with your technique because it will show very clearly just what you did wrong. It shows any camera shake very clearly.

Anyhow on Sunday I went down to one of the local beaches and took a few pics.

The pelicans like to hangout looking for handouts from the fishermen and women.

Here's a 100% crop from the above pic

My shuuter speed was too slow on thie capture but I loved the detail

There was this wood stork hanging out trying to pass as a pelican

I see you're enjoying 12mp photography. Is there anything else on the X that's an improvement to the H?

Great shots, Harry. That PIF is primo. thumb.gifthumb.gif Well done. Glad you are enjoying your new "toy". Does it serve Corona with a push of a botton or turn of a knob? :D

    Hey Doc,

My initial impressions are that the D2H focuses faster by a tad. The bodies are exactly the same so they both handle superbly. The D2X seems to hold highlights better and its color seems more accurate than the D2h. The WB in the X seems to be the best of any camera that I've used to date. The X pics are more detailed of course. The pics from X require virtually no post work at all.

The H is a lot more fun than the X. I can't relax or get sloppy with my technique with the X at all.

I haven't been leaving you comments in awhile, but know that I check out all your posts!

That 100% crop is simply amazing! -- But I noticed a "halo" under the beak, was this due to sharpening? How much sharpening do you have to do?

But the pelican in flight -- wow... I like the slightly blurred wings that show action...

Oh, you can change the font size on that Nikon script to make it a little smaller rather easily. Maybe people will object less then? Just trying to be helpful.

    Hey Dee,

I do my sharpening in Capture. If there's any haloing its due to my experiment with the in-camera settings. I usually shoot with no in-camera sharpening but I was using "normal" sharpening on that day. I didn't like it and went back to no sharpening but I forgot to chnage the sharpening setting in my RAW conversion.

Only one person is objecting to the script and when I get a chance I may change some of the settings but its a very low priority item.

    Hey Jeff,

I have mixed feelings about the high speed crop. It works well and having some smaller files is nice too. I'm still having trouble with moving subjects with it. Its tough keeping a subject in motion in the reduced frame.

The camera itself gives me superb results but it is a demanding beast.

Thanks Vandana. Unfortunately my D2X stopped metering today and is winging it's way back to B&H. :cry Fortunately I still have my D2H to shootwith and I should have a new and hopefully operation D2X in the next week or so. clap.gif

    Darn Harry, what a bummer.

I do have a question. Why would ,or what makes, the D2X more unforgiving than the D2H? I'm sure everyone else on the list understood why but I don'tne_nau.gif When you have a minute I would appreciate/could you explain?

Definite bummer! I got a bad pint of Haagen Daz last night if it makes you feel any better, Harry? All freezer burned, had to throw it right out.

But I actually was wondering what makes the D2X more "demanding" as well. I can't figure it out. Should meter, focus, handle all the same, only have more resolution.

What has made it more demanding for myself is all that resolution. Not only does it show all the detail in a shot but it also shows every mistake you make very well also. If you put cheap glass on it the D2X will clearly demonstrate the lens' shortcomings.

I have to think a bit before I press the shutter release on the D2X. Unless you are using good technique to hold or support it the D2X will clearly show every little bit of camera shake. My keepers with the D2X are fantastic but my cull % has risen.

If you count Dee, it's 2, actually. Harry, I'd listen to Dee on this subject, if I were you. She's a graphics design pro and really good at it. She designed my business card and she made the winning version of a poster for a bike race, beating out some pretty fierce competition from the Fred Miranda crowd.

And WholeNewLight actually did just what Dee suggested, so we'll count him as 3.

Anyway, I have this particular patient open on the operating table. Harry, please could you take a look here? With a little help from you, I think I can fix some of the cruft. Thanks.
    If not now, when?
