Oh my - that's awesome! I never would have thought of solving the 'popup-problem' this way! clap.gif
Plus I can arrange my photos without having to leave traditional view - Whhhooohoooo! thumb.gif

Thanks for the very cool and useful update!

Found a little glitch: When putting SMUGSEARCH in the header it didn't show up for me using the preview customization button. I had to apply the settings for real in order to see that the searchbar sat in an awkward position. mwink.gif

    Enjoy the weekend,

49581276-M.gif This was a big release. Lots of long testing days... 50124423-M.gif

The stuff that will get talked about most is the drag & drop arranging, and the lightbox that JT did with prodding from people like Mike Lane (thanks for that!).

But some really big effort went into the new search, which Onethumb has been working on a long time, and some major things are happening with the back end -- like Andrew's array of image processing servers to handle uploads quickly.

Hopefully adding to the shopping cart is now a lot more convenient and intuitive, and the cart should be a whole lot faster.

The Filmstrip style and the new Lightbox had to be alot of work compared to my request (Journal Medium, Journal Large) :cry

Looking forward to the new cart performance.... I ordered 166 pictures last week (a few from each gallery) and it took forever...

    thanks for the new stuff!1drink.gif

SWEET! I just now noticed the little "arrange mode" thingy and I thought "uh-oh, they're up to it again!" I love this feature. You guys rock!

Okay now to try out all the other new features. Will reply back with input if anything arises...

[edit] Aaaahhh! Light Box is SO COOL!!!

[edit #2] Huh? Original images don't appear until they're entirely loaded? Why for? I kinda liked how they scroll down slowly, it at least lets you know something's happening...

[edit #3] "Make 2nd copy" copies Geo data? Does this mean custom pro pricing? I had an issue about this recently, I bet this fixes it!!

[edit #4] You fixed the + in Ajax. YES!

here's another lightbox type of implementation. you would have to implement it yourself in your blog:

I like some of the changes
I do like the drag 'n drop arrange. Very efficient and straightforward.

I'm not sure if I like the overlay. Can I turn that off? It seems that some photos are loading twice, and the exact same size. That doesn't save the viewer's time; it wastes their time. Example below.

    overlayimage.jpg
The underlying image loaded as it always used to, and then another image, same size, began to load on top of it, without me clicking on anything.

here it is... just the forums linkage page

Harry's squirrel and the silver bolt through the fence shot display this behavior in IE6 (yes, that crappy browser).

I am actually amazed that transparent .PNG's can be forced to work in IE at all. That's something I'll have to try to get working on the Mrs.'s site.

For me when I click on a thumbnail it'll bring up everything as normal. When I then click on the big *medium size* picture it brings up the overlay with a *large* size picture. Your saying that when you click on a thumbnail it loads up both the normal medium size AND the overlay without you clicking on anything else?

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I place the gallery on All Thumbs. I click the squirrel or the bolt through the fence thumbnail. The larger pic loads and without any more intervention (no clicking events, etc), the overlay begins to load right over it again (same size), which takes a couple more seconds. Just as in the image above.

EDIT: Looked into this further. Other examples are the photo of gluwater and our poor sick kitty. The thumbs, when clicked come up as image size large. The large image size is exactly the same as the original size image, in all these cases. So if large display = original size, the script will double load the picture.

OK, yes. Thanks Andy. That seemed to work.

I'm wondering though... the average visitor won't know that trick, and only a few gallery display modes even offer a preferred viewing size option. ne_nau.gif

Wonderful!!! Some issues and bugs, though.
Love that new 'drag and drop' photo and gallery arrange function. Well done team!

    http://blogs.smugmug.com/release-notes/

Kewl features. I have some questions, though :)
I found them on my site www.streetsofboston.com

    1. Drag & Drop arrange mode. Kewl, but can be a bit awkward if you have CSSed your galleries heavily (images disappear, etc.). But it works! thumb.gif
    2. Slideshow and Journal do not have a Drag & Drop option. At least, not on my galleries. Where is this option?
    3. Lightbox is kewl!! thumb.gifthumb.gif
    4. (question removed: i found the solution)
    5. When i click in "buy: (this) photo" the photo is not added to the cart!
(adding multiple photos to the cart works fine).
    6. The 'continue browsing' button is just GREAT! Thanks!
    7. Customizers can reverse the way the arrows in Filmstrip work: How?

    Customization of search-result pages:
When i go to my site and do 'Search...' --> 'Pictures in Streets Of Boston', the search results are correct, but the page looks plain weird! I have a big cogs rotating in 'Adding to Cart'-picture. My logo is spread over the page. My menu appear belows the rotating cogs, etc... something is up. It seems that the rotating cogs in the 'Adding to Cart' picture is the culprit.

Some bugs which - i hope - will be resolved, but all-in-all great work guys! :Dthumb.gif
I can't grasp the notion of time.

SLIDESHOW - it's in the photo tools menu :D

JOURNAL - go to single image mode, photo tools.

    4. Where can i find 'arrange categories' and 'arrange subcategories' tool? I can not find them.

    Thank you very much Andy!

    Here is some more info:

    >2. Slideshow and Journal do not have a Drag & Drop option. At least, not on my galleries. Where is this option?<
I can not find photo-tools in Slideshow style gallery.
Go to http://www.streetsofboston.com/gallery/994065 and do 'Change Gallery Style' --> Slideshow. The 'photo tools' button/dropdown is not there.

    >5. When i click in "buy: (this) photo" the photo is not added to the cart!
(adding multiple photos to the cart works fine).<
Go to http://www.streetsofboston.com/gallery/994065 and do 'Change Gallery Style' --> Smugmug (or Smugmug small, or any other style for that matter). Then click 'buy: this photo'. Then do 'view cart'. Cart is empty.

I'll take a look at my pages in Firefox, but if i may ask: what is that 'Adding to cart' image doing in (my) search-result page, the one with the rotating cogs?:D

    new features == good
First of all, i love the new features. Getting rid of the pop-up was fantastic. I do have a few quibbles with the lightbox though..

    1) Is there any way to customize the alpha value? I find all the colored text (and partial images) that can be viewed behind it very very distracting and in fact, they take away from the photo. It is actually hard to focus on what is going on in the photo.

    2) When I go to view something in the lightbox, even when I have firefox maximized, SM unmaximizes it and moves the window. There is no reason for this to happen. I had to forbid javascript from resizing windows to resolve this, and I shouldnt have to. can anything be done to fix this? This is a pretty serious bug.

    3) Layout on the lightbox. I think this has the biggest promise I've seen on this site in a while. I'd love to see an option to display exif somewhere on the bottom the lightbox, maybe iptc keywords, captions, author/copyright tags.

    4) :puts on CS grad student hat: I am going to 4th the doing something about the gears thing. it belongs small and in the corner. From an HCI perspective, the acknowledgement that something is happening is a necessity, but I'd rather see the previous picture longer in the main area. Also, mayhaps some sort of fade effect or something to move through the pictures so it feels less mechanical.

All in all, good work! keep it up! as with everything, there is always room for improvement

I like the gears things as they are, but I do have one issue. Using Firefox 1.5 in WinXP, when you add something to the cart (either one or multiple) it resizes the window and stays resized (i.e. the window is no longer maximized).

    My thoughts ...
You can change the background png image used to whatever you want for the lightbox. If you want it to be completely opaque, go for it :) Just look in the smugmugBlack.css file for the ID to use.

As for resizing the page, sorry about that - but I found not other way around this problem: we needed to make the orginal page's scrollbars dissapear (by setting the body's overflow style to hidden in css). The problem is that not all browsers would take the scroll bars away unless you resized the window. So I resized it by 1 px. I put it back to the correct size when you close the light box though. Guess windows does not put it back to full screen.

One other person has asked for captions below the image, but I did not want to recreate the wheel with lightbox. It is meant to be a quick speedy way to examine a photo. If you want more details, slideshow or filmstrip might be better to go look at.

As for the add to cart problem, I am looking in to it and have several ideas on how to fix, stay tuned.
