Mini Challenge #371: Livin' in the City

npdemersnpdemers Registered Users Posts: 35 Big grins

Going off my winning photo in the last challenge, I thought we'd do some urban photography.

Skylines! Bustling streets! Infrastructure! Imposing skyscrapers and cool architecture! Also quaint towns with atmosphere and history. Let's see all the amazing cities you've been to, with grand views and interesting details.

This contest will run until July 23rd, 6PM PST

Here are some photos to get you started, two from my 'hood and one from my travels:

False Creek and the Granville Island "Giants" -- Vancouver, BC, February 2020

Morning between towers, from Granville Street Bridge -- Vancouver, BC, March 2020

Nice theme! I wasn't sure I was going to have anything really suitable since I don't really live near a large city, but I found some! Usually, my traveling is to national parks and more remote places. The few times we have visited a bigger city, we've been in full tourist mode. We've been to NYC twice and I have lots of pics, but almost every "city shot" I have also includes either my daughter or my husband. I am looking forward to seeing what everyone comes up with!

    1. Washington, DC. - we were the balcony of a nearby museum for this photo.

    2. Downtown Fort Worth, TX After Dark - This was the view from my hotel room.

    3. Lower Manhattan - taken from the ferry on the way to the Statue of Liberty

Thank you! I realise this theme may not be for everyone. Most of my photos are birds and landscapes, but there hasn't been a challenge like this for a while and I'm curious to see what comes out :)

I am interested in architecture and I visit cities on my way to towns and parks, so I have a lot of photos of city life. But I decided not to try to overthink this one and just picked the first city photos I found. I see that I like to get up high

    1. Lisbon, in 1964

    2. Seattle from the Space Needle.

    3. London from an airplane

I have very few Urban city shots, but found these. They probably don't qualify, but I enjoy a sense of humor. Don't feel bad at rejecting these for judging

    1) Island city life - along the Puget Sound

    2) Scotia, Ca. A Lumbermill Company Town -where conformity is paramont

    3) Once a thrivng metropolis, example of ex-urbania

Can't resist one more Company Town (Samoa, Ca). These were developed during the lumbermill boom and still exist to some extent.

They absolutely qualify! I wouldn't have thought of urban ruins, but there you go :)

I'm cutting it close. This isn't my usual genre of photography, but I like to participate anyway.

    1) Roebling Suspension Bridge and Cincinnati Skyline, panorama

    2) Roebling Suspension Bridge, Covington Entrance

    3) Bryggen at Night
