Deleted posts?

While I can understand that the moderators have the authority and the right to delete any posts they like on this site, is there any policy about alerting the author of the post?
One of my posts was mysteriously deleted 2 weeks ago. I'd like to know how and why this happened. Quite honestly, I was a little P%#$&ed at the time. I would think that a long time poster here would have been given an explanation.
I don't think the same courtesy needs to be extended to people that just post spam!

    I wish you'd have said something sooner.. Could you give me a thread link, or a date that this happened? I'd like to see it.

    Moderators have the ability to delete posts, yes, and our policy is to let the poster know why the post was deleted (we don't bother with notifying any spammer, we just ban them). This sounds like a mixup.

    Can you give me some details? Thanks.

    Sometimes we move post and the redirects get taken down in a few days to not make a mess of the forum pages. As Andy asked if you tell us what it is we can look into it. What forum was it posted in?

    Thanks for the quick reply. I had posted a comment in a new thread in the Accessories forum regarding 4labs' purchase of a new Nikon lens (28-70mm). This was two weeks ago. The post vanished within 24 hours. The post was a lighthearted ribbing about Erik's new purchase which occured right after he spent big $$$ on another lens. If this offended, that was not my intention.

    Quite honestly, I'm over it at this point. I was just curious about the official policy regarding this action.

    OK so the official policy is that the Moderator should PM the poster as to the reason.
