Hi all,
Today is turning into a really bad day...
Can anyone who is using joker.com for C-Name forwarding confirm whether it is working or not?
For that matter, can anyone talk to joker.com itself?
Anyone hear anything about outages etc?
Cheers,
Luke

I wonder if we should still be recommending them....

What would happen to your domain if a place such as Joker, GoDaddy etc.. folded shop?
Maybe Smugmug could do some domain hosting as well

I'll let you know, once I manage to get in touch with them...
I begin to wonder the same thing....

One of the sites I run for a friend: www.onbroadwaydancers.com seems fine, but mine www.brandolinoimaging.com will not connect.
Both of those sites also came up fine on my Macintosh with Time Warner cable. No issues.
I think there may be a problem with some connections or something.

Yesterday, I tried to set up a second email via Joker and it wound up taking 4 hours due to the outage. Not a good start.

I'm assuming that's why we ALL went w/ Joker....
First of all, apologies for the Joker issue and also their lack of response. It's terrible, honestly.
Earlier tonight I sent this off to joker:

Pretty crappy of Joker to not reply to its customers if you ask me. So, why exactly does Smugmug recommend them so much?? Thats really the only reason I used them.
Before we get out the tar-and-feathers are we sure it's a Joker issue and not an internet issue? I know my service across the board stunk yesterday and I'm sure Joker wasn't responsible for those problems.
Not sure how all this works behind the scenes but it seems as though there must be internet hubs set up around the world. An issue at a hub, either hackers or equipment, could cause trouble for large areas of users/providers.

My connection to the internet is supposedly fairly close to the UK's backbone through the connection to the UK's Joint Academic Networks.
Everything worked fine yesterday except stuff to do Joker.
I don't understand enough about DNS and C-Name caching architectures to really understand what's going on, but I suspect that the periodic behaviour is due to some people accessing cached versions of the DNS entries. If this is true, it bodes ill for the future as the deleted entries have had time to propogate through the DNS hierachy.
This is one of the reasons why I was hesitant, as I'm currently working with a custom DNS server that I was cautious might be breaking things. But other people are having problems as well.
Sure, it may not be directly Joker's fault, but I purchased the services that are currently not operating from them. Consequently they are my port of call and to some degree it is their responsibility to make sure that it continues to work despite other peoples problems. DNS services are one of things that I need to work all the time, and they're currently not.
I filed a support request with them and am awaiting an answer.

Letting the tar cool (for the moment) I'm back up and running. I'm totally out of the loop on this stuff so if I need to change domain host - someone please let me know
