Nice shots, Harry. Night Heron means nothing to me, but anything you've waited 2 years for must be special. Those eyes are amazing. The BIF shot is nice.

Thank you David. Night herons aren't that special. Its just one bird that I haven't had much luck capturing well in the past.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Great backyard catch harry. I am tring to find a wav of their call. There are several just beside me here on the river that i see in the late afternoon & every morning about 4am some birds start screaming...each gives a call & then the other takes it an octave higher & 20 db louder. I dont know what is doing it & suspect the night heron. Hell of an alarm clock.

Thaks Gus. Night herons are pretty quiet birds. Now if you want a noisy one try the limpkin. They used his calls for the jungle sounds in the old Tarzan movies.

Yeah..i eventually found their call. It wasnt them...they are very quiet. The birds i hear give a scream & another one calls louder then another louder again..this escillates (sp?) in volume for about 6-10 individual calls. All is quiet for 2-3 mins then one calls again to start it all over.

Maybe, just maybe it will work for me (us) because I have yet to find ONE stinking night heron pose for me!! They are very shy and, the moment they
feel they are being tracked (by my camera) or as soon as I take one step forward (or sideways! lol)..... they're gone!

That has been my experience with these suckers up to last Friday. I was amazed when he didn't fly off when I got close to see what bird he was. I was even more amazed that he hung around for me to get my camera and then I was just floored that he hung around while I snapped off 35 shots of him.
