Yabbut, you can get close to that for a lot cheaper, see if it's enough. If it's not, then go 400. No need to splash on a 300 when you can get 280 for cheap.
As I mentioned, the 300/f2.8 is good lens in low light.
And in this application, you're looking primarily for shutter speed. The
300/f2.8 gives you more options (think low ISO/High shutter speed).
Especially in the shadows. It offers reach over the 70-200 though it is a
prime so not much use for things the 70-200 would be perfect for (speaking
of the f2.8 version).
