Hi Y'all,

Now that the season at the rookery is over I'm back at my old haunt, the Viera Wetlands. Its not as spectacular as the rookery but its always has a few photo ops to provide.

Its a lot quiter and slower than the rookery which is good right now. I've finished viewing the Reznick's DVDs and I picked up some ideas I've want to try and the slower paces is good for that.

Anyhow here are the pics.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

Excellent Harry. It's nice to try new things isn't it. Kind of breaks up the monotony of the same routine. I would say you were looking for clean backgrounds and nice reflections in these shots. One thing I remember from one of Moose Petersons articles is when shooting reflections make sure your subject is spectacular enough to have twice in your shot. I think your gator and anhinga demonstrate that nicely, the Egret on the other hand I would have liked the water to be calmer and not have the vegetation near it's head in the reflection. But these are small nits, it is still a lovely shot.

Thanks Nick. I have been working on shooting less and concentrating on getting better compositions. With reflection shots I often find some disturbance or motion in the water can make the reflection more interesting. What appealed to me in the egret shot was how the egret and its refection bracketed the height of frame right with all the other lines in the frame the grass islets, the morehen moving towards the left of the frame. I would have liked it better if there had been no vegetation just above the egret in upper frame right corner. I considered cloning them out but I have a hesitancy about doing that on my nature shots.

Thanks Awais. I really don't remember how far away I was but it was a good safe distance as I was using my 500mm and 1.4 TC. I never get too close to the gators because they can move very fast.
