Fantastic shots Gus! You really got close up to them. I hope you didn't scare the little guys.

Tks guys. Quite humbling to be next to them. They give you a feeling that you are there as their entertainment as they swim past & look at you.
Great shots.... Looks like you had a great day out.
I'd like to say we have the same sort of 'fish' pottering about the South Coast of the UK. But we don't, so I can't....I think a shark got spotted a couple of weeks ago...

Our Humpback whales are currently all about our coast here atm holidaying from the Antartic winter. They have come 5000 klms (3000 miles) into the bays here to calve & generally play about. They can reach 18 meters & 40 tonnes (54 feet & 90 000 lbs)
Your pictures tell an exciting story. Good work, and thanks for posting. I enjoyed your pictures and your narrative.
Excellent shots, Gus! Now I know how you got sea salt on your lens!!! I read recently that there are more and more incidents with whales and small boats because the whales are not afraid of man. I'd be really nervous in a boat that small with an animal that big breaching the water. They are truly magnificent and it's so unfortunate the Japanese don't share our concerns for their continued survival.
Damn! This isn't the first time the Japanese have wanted to hunt whales for
"research" purposes (since the ban on whaling). I would hope the people of
Japan and the international community can convince the government otherwise.
These are spectacular shots. The full frame gives it a really nice up close
and personal look too.
Post some more please.

nice set Gus! Japan has been basically bribing developing countries so they will vote to open up commercial whaling again. Apparently this last vote they succeeded.
