I am new to this and would like some feedback on what I have done right and wrong. I just bought a Nikon 80-400mm lens and used it for the first time this past weekend. I am not even sure that I am posting this right.

It looks like you linked the thumbnail to the gallery instead of a picture.

    Hey Keith,

    Welcome to Dgrin cheerleader.gifwave.gif

Congrats on the 80-400. Is a fun lens to have and should serve you well. It taks a bit of getting used to but once you understand it you can get some marvelous results with it.

The first shot is pretty good, you good some nice colors in the shot. The comp could have been improved by not centering your subject. I would have tried to place it towards the bottom left since he was pointed towards the upper right. It would have been cool to have framed it with the leaf he was on coming out of that lower right corner.

The comp and th esetting on the second shpt are good but the egret is a tad blown. Here's a link to a thread discussing how to expose for white birds. http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=26500

You can find more helpful info here http://dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=22725

The third shot is fine except for the center placement of your subject.

The fourth shot is the strongest one of this set. thumb.gif

Hope to see more of your pics.

How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"

    Welcome to Dgrin.

Some nice pics you have there Keith. The Nikkor 80-400 VR is a great lens to shoot wildlife. Follow Harriy's advice to improve in certain arias.

    Thanks for sharing.
