Hi Y'all,

I've been confined to bed all week with an attack of cellultis on my left leg. I have to keep the leg elevated so I'm preparing this thread on my laptop lying on my side with my left leg elevated.

Anyhow here's a few pics from a recent visit to the wetlands.

A sad picture because that fluff on the side of his bill is a fishing line which means that the hook is probably in his gullet.

    Great series Harry.

Every year a lot of bird loosing their life because of fishing line. It sad to see them suffer because it's a long suffering process before they die.

    Get well soon!

Two sad stories - yours and the Anahinga! I suspect you'll do better than the Anahinga, Harry. But it sure ain't keeping you down, so to speak. Wonderful captures as always. Get better soon!

Hope you're feeling better soon Harry. Now since you have experience helping the less fortunate animals, just catch that anhinga and stick your arm down its throat:D.

Thhanks Ric. I love shooting the black-bellied whistlings ducks (wish they had a shorter name though). :D

I have cellulitis. Its a bacterial infection of the leg. Turns it and causes swelling. No fun.

    Harry,

In 1994 I contracted "Erysipelas" of the face and scalp. Erysipelas is similar to cellulitis, so I know something of what you are going through. The colloquial name for what I had was, "scalded head disease", and that's exactly what it felt like.

Hopefully they have you on a powerful "x-cillin" of some sort. Do exactly what the doctor says because this disease can be life threatening.

Great images as usual. Take care of yourself so there are many more.

    Best,

I think thats what my oldest son had his senior year of high school. It spread easily and was a large red blotch that was very hot to the touch. I suppose the humid conditions you live in give bacteria what it needs to thrive. Sorry for your pain.

    Ayy Harry,

Let's get that leg better, shall we? Can't have you sloughing off now!

Bacteria, huh? Give 'em a couple doses of azithromycin (Zithromax) and see if they like THAT!!! :beatwax :gun2

BTW, I've never seen a cormorant with feathers...like that...what kind is it again?

Thanks Dick. You shoot birds long enough you see a fair of death. The only time it gets to me is when I see something like that Anhinga. We have a local ibis that's flying around with some idiot's arrow enbedded in its chest

    I've had cellulitis ... ouch
    Hi Harry:

I've been lurking for some time now, but since I've had cellulitis, I finally thought it was time to chime in. Mine was just a tiny puncture on one of my fingers that turned into cellulitis, then lymphangitis (the red rash). Boy, you wanna see some medical folks running around squawking when they see that! So, I share your pain, and am certain that they've shot you full of antibiotics. They made me wear a sling (and this was just a little ouwie on the finger before it went ballistic) - so if you gotta keep the leg elevated, keep it elevated! It does go from bad to worse fast.

Also wanted to tell you & so many other folks here how much I admire your work & how much you inspire me to improve my own - I ordered the Ron Reznick dvd's which are great, and have gotten much artistic and technical info from these forums as well. I've only commented on peoples' posts a couple of times, but that doesn't mean I don't admire their work - I'm a lurker by nature, so don't often say much. I've been trying to get some really clean crisp bird shots and it's SO hard to get the quality that we so often see here!

So your enforced convalescence will give you the time to process some more shots for our enjoyment.

    Get well soon,

    Katy

    P.S. Love the ducks.

I'm following my doctor's directions to a T and I'm on anti-biotics which seem to be working (slowly). I'm seeing improvement in the leg and hope to be off complete bed confinement by Tuesday. This is the longest i have ever been laid up.
