Thanks again for the comments all :):)
wxwax- think my MPE-65 shots are better than the ones in that article- the lighting is particularly nasty mwink.gif

Some of us were wondering - how is the drop in #1 so round? Why isn't it distorted by gravity? Or are we not looking at it from the side? Wouldn't surface tension make it "grab" the leaf more on the sides, therefore flattening it out?

The POV is from slightly above the blade and drop. The point of attachment of the drop is on the underside of the blade so you can't see it. The drop is round because it is so small (around 1.5 mm diameter) drops don't start getting drop shaped until they are about 5mm in dia where gravity can overcome the surface tension.

Not sure if it helps overcome your doubt but here are the original JPGs the pic was focus stacked from- both straight from Raw processing, note the slightly different focus on the grass blade the drop itself and the refracted image .

Just in case you still have doubts, here's 6 pics I quickly did this morning in 8 minutes flat- some clearly show the attachment points, others don't. In the last pair I just moved the flower behind the drop a bit between shots.

I was so impressed with your shots, I had to try it.
No ext. tubes, just a XT with a 2x TC and a Canon 50mm marco lens.

After that I remembered that the Sony 717 was pretty good at macros.
If I would have remembered to check the ISO, I think the sony
    may give me OK results.

With the 717 in macro mode, you can just about touch the flower
with the lens while taking the shot. You can get that close.

This one is close to a 100% crop. At ISO 400, way to much noise.
