I just did an example which showed all four of my assigned blending modes in action. I'm going to try to walk through it and keep the intermediate steps. So it can serve to illustrate how they fit together and work in practice.
Why not? They're all doing more or less the same thing, albeit each with different results. Also, the fact that, except for Soft Light and Hard Light, they're all kind of useless, (particularly for the use that most on this forum would put them to), makes the job a little easier than, say, Multiply or Screen, which everyone uses in a wide variety of contexts. The Photoshop documentation is likewise worthless, so a consistent sample of blended images to show the different results should be sufficient.
