This is fantastic!!! My plea for the future to Adobe... PLEASE incorporate an "Export to Smugmug" function in the production release of Lightroom! I would pay $50 more for the software if it did.

Add it to PS CS2 as well!

    background uploads
Can you upload pictures in the background? Currently, when you upload a gallery you cannot do anything else in pse until the upload is complete. (Which is especially annoying if you need to upload a lot of galleries and have limited upload bandwidth). Phanfare and sharpcast currently support this...(though only with windows folders)

It would be especially useful if we could synchronize a pse collection to a smugmug gallery. (to solve the 'i updated some pictures in several galleries, but do not remember which ones' problem)

Also great would be the possibility to change category and subcategory names of existing galleries from within PSE...

Now if you can convince Adobe to do the same in some of their other products (Like Lightroom) I'd be all set. mwink.gif

I agree, this would be awesome - but I'm afraid it's something you'll have to take up with Adobe. The way they wrote Elements, this isn't possible.

But there's no reason they might not make it work for the next version next year if you ask nicely. :)

Direct upload from Bridge? No problem!
As usual, Star*Explorer saves the day:

    SE_bri1.jpg

That is, unless you're not afraid of copying a few java scripts around :-)

    Details on the website.

Caveat: working copy of Star*Explorer required. It's an integration, not a standalone solution :-)

Do the images you select in Bridge have to be JPEGs already? What happens if they're RAWs?

If they are RAW - you'll get nada.... ne_nau.gif
Just like if you try to upload RAW files to SM in *any* other possible way. deal.gif

It is conceivable to make a blend of image processor and an uploader, but it has so many caveats and sideffects that I really would think twice and thrice before creating such a script...rolleyes1.gif

BTW, they can be any SM-compliant type, not necessarily jpegs...

FYI, SmugMug compliant types are JPEG, GIF, PNG, and MPEG-1.

I believe, though I haven't tested, that PhotoShop Elements 5 will automagically convert RAW as it uploads to SmugMug. I'm sure it increases your upload time, doing the conversion, but I'd be interested in hearing if anyone had success with it.

    I know..:-)
Plus, as you know, since long ago S*E has its own built-in conversion tool for a much wider variety of non-raw files types (pretty much, everything Windows knows about:-)..

As I mentioned in my answer to John, merging ImageProcessor and my own integration script would not be TOO hard now.
But please agree that the result might be a very time-consuming and somewhat ambiguous process, and I'm not even talking development..
What is there is already a psd file? What if there is already a jpeg/tiff? Was user mistaken or s/he really meant it?
    Too many questions...ne_nau.gif
I personally prefer to keep my post processing separate from uploading...
So unless I hear a lot of requests for that I think I keep the status quo for now:-)
    Cheers!

Just out of curiosity, what happened to the CS3 integration that was mentioned here? Since I heard Don mention it in the Scoble interview I've been trying to find it, I don't see anything even remotely resembling the options shown in this thread or the help page or Ben's video.

It works. I uploaded a few images and they uploaded fine. It presents your galleries in a flat list when you need to pick a gallery which can be a bit inefficient when you have several hundred galleries. I love that StarExplorer gives me a hierarchy to pick from and it remembers the last gallery I used.

Been away from Dgrin for awhile and decided to visit again and found this thread. Didn’t know I could use CS3/Bridge to load my images. Tried it this morning and found it so easy I thought I did something wrong! Very nice feature for a person with a small total number of galleries and small uploads, though...deal.gif
Note to S*E users: you'd need to "get image info" after such "external" upload to ensure S*E has its cache updated.

The upload from CS3 is a very nice feature, however it appears that Bridge is very buggy with regards to the Photoshop Services startup script. I made a boo-boo last night and rebooted my machine during an upload to Smugmug and now Bridge crashes 15 seconds after it loads ... every time.

I've done the reset/purge, etc. thing and no luck. The only thing that works is to quickly disable Photoshop Services before it crashes. So now I'm out of luck with being able to upload to Smugmug from Bridge.

If anyone here knows how to fix the startup script I'd appreciate hearing about it. On the Adobe site they just tell people to turn off Photoshop Services.

If I ever get to be able to use the feature again I do have a few items on my wish list:

    1. It would be great if the galleries could be sorted, and have the option of showing them in a list.
    2. I'd like to see a way to queue uploads to several galleries. That way you could do a bunch of uploads from different folders overnight to whatever galleries you want.
    3. I was in the middle of one upload and thought I could start a second session. When I tried this it immediately stopped the first and started the new session with zero warning or feedback (which I did not expect). A warning dialog asking if you'd like to cancel the upload in progress would be appreciated.

Myself - none, I don't use it, I'm still holding off to XP. mwink.gif
But I have at least about 100 active customers with Vista, maybe more. deal.gif
Some problems do occur in transition, but nothing out of the ordinary, less than a dozen cases over the course of a whole year, and thus far all except the very last one (customer travels, issue is on hold until his return) were resolved fairly quickly.
