Thank for the great download program. I was able to log in as a guest and download several of my friends picture albums, however one of them keeps giving me "Error in Feching image data" Any ideas why? I can view this particular album in smugmug fine, would like to be able to download it, is there album size limits?headscratch.gif PS - first time here, awesome website-thanks

They may have external downloading disabled for that gallery, making it unavailable to guest downloads.

I got word that the download max had been reached on the file host. I've revised the link, so AF should be available again.

Just downloaded your program and looks good -

However, I need something to download photos from a Sharegroup URL of unlisted galleries ?
OR - even just from the individual unlisted gallery URL - one at a time

    Suggestions ??

It's a good thought, but AlbumFetcher has no sharegroup functionality at the moment.

All links re-updated, due to drop.io max downloads being hit.

Love this program! What a time saver. My only its bitsy gripe is not being able to sort the galleries by name. That would be huge since I have hundreds of galleries. It takes some time and effort (for me) to find the gallery. But if I could sort these by Album Title...wow! It would be awesome. Or even by Count or Category.

    Please? bowdown.gif

I click on the headings in the window but nothing happens.

Any word on my above questions??? :D

Latest to-do list (not yet implemented)...
    • Keyword-based downloading (an oldie but goodie)
    • Fetch photos based on gallery or sharegroup URL
    • Auto-restart after abort
    • Save settings (local download folder, etc) in sidecar file
    • Sortable list of galleries
    • From rusgeek:
      • I just had problem with encoding when listing galleries named in Russian. Apparently XML returned from API is UTF-8 encoded but your code treats is as char. I was able to hack a solution changing line 340 of Http.cpp to strText = CA2W((char*)pBuffer, CP_UTF8);
      • Another problem is that after downloading a first photo of a gallery the program crashes when "Embed IPTC data" check box is on. I suspect it is somehow related to encoding.
I have NO time at the moment for updating AF with these wishes, but at least this keeps a running comment on requests...

    Q re changing filename
Why does AlbumFetcher change the file name that file has on SmugMug upon download? how do i fix it so that it retains the original file name?

AlbumFetcher retains the original filename (i.e. the filename when the account owner uploaded the file) when logged into AF as owner. When logged into AF as guest, it uses the SmugMug filename, since SmugMug does not tell guests what the original filename is. Hope that makes sense.

i have my albums set up so filename is displayed so guests can see the filename. why then can't AlbumFetcher get the filenames?

AlbumFetcher works with Windows 7? "error in fetching image data"
anyone know if AlbumFetcher works with Windows 7? my aunts having trouble with getting it to work. She logs in as a guest with password and after it starts to download, it gets an "error in fetching image data." Or have any other idea what that error is from?

AlbumFetcher works with the API, which returns the values as described above. SmugMug may have other functionality available on your account, but it's not visible through the API (as far as I know).

I have not tested under Win7. Would be curious to know how others are doing.

    Folder structure
    Hi.

I wanted to download all my files from SmugMug to have a local backup copy (as suggested in the Smugmug EULA btw).
Anyway, Album Fetcher is a fantastic application. Fast, easy to use, video support - the works.

My only problem is the folder structure. I have about 500 albums in many sub categories.
When I just select ALL of them, and begin a download, it will place everything in folders, but not structured.
Example: I have a category called family. Below that, I have subcategories for "child A" and "child B" etc. In these, I have many albums.

I had hoped AF would download and place in folders like this:
    Family/Child A/Album X
    But it downloads simply into:
    Album X

This gets confusing with hundreds of albums and it is a big task to move them into the right category structure locally afterwards.

Any chance AF can create the correct folder structure based on category/subcategory like Star*Explorer does?

One other thing: is the video download size a "minimum size" or a "maximum size"? If my videos was uploaded in 640x480, and I select 1080, will I get a 640 video or an upscaled 1080?

Thanks again for a great app!

    /Soren

So apparently it's not a Win7 problem...it's an album problem. two other people (non Win 7 people) can't get some of my albums to download (and I can't either as a guest...didn't try as owner b/c i need it to work as guest). but some of my albums work just fine. i've checked all my album settings and i can't see any differences. what is that "error in fetching image data. download aborted." from?? any suggestions??

need help!! i NEED the album download function to work or it's kinda pointless being a member of SmugMug!!

I will add your hierarchical request to the list of to-dos; certainly makes sense. As for your video question... I believe the highest-quality video available will be fetched if the requested size does not exist.

Do your gallery names contain any special characters? Do you have external linking enabled?

Are the same albums causing problems, regardless of which PC or OS is trying to get them? If so, send me a link (PM if you wish), and I'll give them a try in debug mode. I should warn you that it will be next week before I'm able, though...

If your albums are publicly accessible, they can log in as guest, meaning they use your smugmug nickname but w/o a password. Users will be presented with only your public galleries.

    Great app . . .
Just discovered this application and it works well . . . perhaps too well.

I typically lock out the right-click function to prevent unauthorized downloads. Yes, I know it's not foolproof, but it provides a basic level of protection.

AlbumFetcher ignores that setting, and downloads the pictures to the highest allowed resolution.

Not a tremendous big deal because it's not like a make a living from my hobby, but it does negate the the option of downloading a digital copy for a fee.

I could set the default size to be small, but that defeats the purpose of using smugmug to share photos.

Just wondering if that is something that can be addressed (i.e. check the setting for the gallery), or if it's something we'll just have to account for when setting up permissions.

    Thanks.

Your gallery settings have an option for external linking, which essentially disables image access via direct URL. This is what AlbumFetcher uses, so you can protect your images by disabling external linking.

I don't know the mechanism AlbumFetcher uses, but external linking is disabled in my galleries and it still downloaded the pictures.

Just to be sure, I just tested it on the "ejdalise/Flowers/November 09 Flowers" gallery and a few others.

Were you using as-owner or as-guest? As-owner should always work.
