    After inserting the player code, I used this from your post...
    So, you can of course hide it, if you give it a DIV, say, <div id="mysongspot">insertthecodeshere</div> and then in CSS you can do #mysongspot {visibility: hidden;}

    I put the divs in as you said, then the CSS code...now the player is invisible, but there is no music playing??<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/ne_nau.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

    Sure sounds like Pachelbel's Canon to me ne_nau.gif

    But you don't allow a way to turn this off, so that's bad, IMO. Think hard about it.

    HA! That's funny. Speakers working fine...tried my laptop, no sound either. Tried wife's computer, no sound. ne_nau.gif Took out the div code, flash player visible again...have sound now. Not sure what the problem is when its hidden. Confusion has set it big time!headscratch.gif

    I've completed the new look of my homepage. I was striving for a three demensional look while trying to adhere somewhat to the sunshine theme.

    On a last minute whim, I added music and was able to limit it to only the homepage by using Andy's suggestion with one exception. I placed the div in the bio box not the footer.

    The jury is still out if the music stays or goes...I'm waiting to hear from my customers and friends.

    Have fun,

    Phil

    Andy's suggestion:

    wrap it in a div in your footer html

    <div id="mymusic">
    all the code goes here
    </div>

    in css:

    #mymusic {display: none;}
    .homepage #mymusic {display: block;}

    ====================================
    NOTE: I've removed the music from my website.

    nonilady music site
    I went to the site that you have here the http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=47487&highlight=music
    but did not find anything there. I'll also look at fledge. I have my own music I want to upload and the site that Andy refers to only allows "their music"
    By the way, Maybe I went to your old homepage or is it under construction? I didn't hear any music.

    Can anyone tell me how I would put music in just one gallery with a mute option?
    Sherrlyn at sherrlyn.smugmug.com

    hi everybody,
    referring to the above,

    incase anyone is interested, you can also try www.filelodge.com, its free, you can upload various music files as long as mp3 and the music files are entirely upto your collection and you can embed different music file code on different gallery and anywhere on your site.....currently i am putting my music code at the bottom of my homepage (testing)
    see www.photowardrobe.com

    you may also upload any sort of files i havent tried other functions but check it out!

    cheers[/quote]

    Is there anyway to get the song to be continuous as clients go to different galleries &/or pages? Currently the song restarts on the different pages. Any help is always appreciated...would be lost & a mess without it! Thanks in advance.

    The only two possible ways of doing this that I know of would be:
    1. by using a popup that the visitor would have to leave open during his visit or
    2. by using frames, but they don't work properly with smugmug pages at all.

    The trouble with the first option on the other hand would be that most people nowadays run popup blockers that would catch such an act.

    Long story short: I don't know of any good way of doing this on smugmug.

    Thanks anyway Sebastian - I really wish there was a way to get it to work. I guess I will do what others are doing & only put it on my homepage!

    Laughing.gif - glad you like it. I myself also hate music on web pages. Mostly because most of the time I'm already listening to music myself and when I'm not I usually don't want to listen to music. :D

    By the way (to all who hate music on sites) - the reason I am adding music is to keep consistant with the local competition. Not because I love hearing the song over & over again while viewing - or editing my site. rolleyes1.gif It is a neat little feature to make it more recognizable (and hopefully in a good way). Most of my clients don't view websites continuously either. (like some of us do) But this is a break from the "normal" to have music on a website (not including myspace in the normal searched websites).

    I hope that your clients don't have an aversion to sites with music.

    If I go to a web site that includes sound, I usually leave it immediately. I may stay and browse if I can turn the sound off - but usually I just leave. Yes, it's entirely possible that I am missing some good content, but I really can't stand unsolicited sound.

    ok - so I put in the stuff Andy had listed before for homepage only. That partially fixed the problem...it got rid of the music for a few of the "pages" on my navbar - but not my galleries page? Any ideas?

    There is an easily accessible OFF button. And I don't see that it would turn away any clients - if they want their pictures taken by me - I HIGHLY doubt that the music on my site will change their mind. Thank you for your opinion. It will only be on my homepage & I seriously doubt they will be there long. Like I said this is to keep up with local comp. And since my local comp. is doing well - I don't see that my music will cause anymore of an aversion as theirs has/hasn't. I don't let music scare me away from sites....I just either stop their song or turn off my speakers. I go to a site for a reason & plan to obtain all goals in which I visited the site to begin with. But - again...thanks for your opinion. To each his/her own....

    See my previous post. I used Andy's suggestion except I added the code to the bio box not the footer. The music only plays on the home page.

    Also, I polled all my customers and it was thumbs up all the way...keep the music. My statistics have not given me any indication of shorter visit times in fact, my visit times have gone up slightly. I'm not a fan of music on a website, but...

    Put the following code after .homepage #mymusic {display: block;}:
    .galleries #mymusic {display: none;}

    Hope this helps,

    I've seen the button, but I'm a real sucker for piano solos and had the song already running a couple of times while trying to figure your little problem out. Great choice especially as it fits the slideshow so well tempo-wise and moody as well. thumb.gif

    Thanks so much Phil! I would rather have the song in the footer. That code worked for everything except my galleries page. Is there a way to block the galleries page?

    Nevermind - duh. I fixed it by putting the display to none on the galleries.

    I just added this to the CSS:
    .galleries #mymusic {display: none;}

    to get rid of the music & "player" on my galleries page & it also allowed me to keep the "player" in the footer. Legacy Photography

    Hum...I think I might change my setup. I never like having the player in the bio box but it was the only way I could get it to work.

    I just added that code to the CSS & put the code for the player in the footer & it worked like a charm! Good Luck!

    I'll assist you in moving it.
    Just move the player code from your bio that is enclosed like this:
    <div id="mymusic">
    [player code]
    </div>

    to your footer section in the smugmug customizations.

    You already have some CSS code concerning the player. You just need to remove that:
    .galleries #mymusic {display: none;}

    See if that works and come back if there are any problems.

    Especially if it is on EVERY gallery page that you have. I admit I do like a bit o music to stir the soul when I look at a photo or two. But I like the controls at hand and easy to kill.

    this way is a start I guess, but only one song and on every page by default, is a no go for me.

    I agree about closing out a site with music...tacky imo..but that's just me....I wondered...all these extras that some muggers have on their site like the maps and the music...do those have any effect on the other sites....like mine, where I have thousands of photos so have tried to keep the "extras" to a minimun to speed up load time..but I have to wonder...if sm is supporting these "things" is it not taking up prescious resources that could be used for say....faster load up time etc etc etc???

    I am a teckie dummy...so please answer in plain english!

    I don't want music on my homepage, BUT...
    For clients, it would be nice to have it on a particular gallery set to a slideshow of their pictures...
    Is this possible??
    Thanks in advance!
