    Ok, I read again, and I need your help understanding when you say:

    for me, it implies that by not wanting to limit to the dslr, other mediums are also accepted. or are you only refering to other digital mediums?

    not a biggie though, I always use my dslr to "meter" the scene for my view camera, so in thesis, I should get the scene on both...

    My comment was referring to other digital formats. There are many photographers who do outstanding work with "point and shoot" digicams.

    As for film the straight answer is still:
