This will be a great opportunity to spend the time to learn how to print images the way YOU want them to appear. There are many different types of printers, inks and papers but what really matters is understanding the process so you can apply learned printing skills to any workflow. Understanding how to print will also benefit your Photoshop processing skills. In addition to printing we will share our coating and display methods for both matt paper and photo paper. Look forward to seeing you therewings.gif

I sure like the sound of it. Hope that I can do it.
"A photo is like a hamburger. You can get one from McDonalds for $1, one from Chili's for $5, or one from Ruth's Chris for $15. You usually get what you pay for, but don't expect a Ruth's Chris burger at a McDonalds price, if you want that, go cook it yourself." - me

    anyone?
Is this workshop going to be covering/using techniques like from the book "Welcome to Oz"?

    Aaronzhere,

What a great book! I do share Versace's approach and will comment on how a vizual of the final print must guide you through your photoshop work. However, with only two days the time will be spent studying the actual steps necessary to create your visual. In other words I must assume you have your visualdeal.gif

Of course Jim. I wouldn't have it any other way. Are you doing this one alone or you just don't want to share a room with Kathy :lol4.

So Mark what advice do you have on the images you would like us to bring? Are panos acceptable or is a single frame prefered? Any specific aspect ratio? I'm kind of fond of this shot.

I recommend bringing at least 10 different images to work with. We will help you choose which one to focus on. I would include panos if you have some you are fond of like the one you posted here. In fact this is particularly good for a large print with the little figures on the glacier. The other consideration when choosing images is any scene where you have multiple exposures you want to blend together, because of diff exposures or diff subject matter in the same scene, or an evenly lit image that needs some special constructive post processing.

If you dont already have these maybe consider this an assignmentmwink.gif

hotel looks to be very nice, should be very relaxing.

    Hotel,
We're not staying at Mark's? :) Some of my biggest problems are trying to get what I expect out of my print, ie I'm in Photoshop and I use print-preview with the correct .icc profile and settle on colors/shadow. But when I finally print it out there is much more blocking in the shadows and colors then I expected, I'm looking for some consistancy nya.

Same goes for contrast, I see more/less contrast on my print then I expect (and yes I have a color calibrated monitor and printer with icc files up the wazoo and a RIP).

To throw out what I'm lookin for.

    marc? david?

should our raw captures color space be in sRGB or adobeRGB?

i have none in adobeRGB, i can get some if this is something we will cover...

does anybody even use adobeRGB? or am i Mr.Ignoramis?:crazy

RAW has no color space. The files that you output from RAW do, and you can change that as you output, so, no worries!

k, i thought it was done within camera settings, well atleast in a d200.....

so when shooting raw the sRGB & adobeRGB choice has no bearing?
That is correct! Only when you save it from Adobe Camera RAW or another type of RAW converter does it matter. Then you simply choose which color space you want to save it into.

So any of your existing RAW files will workdeal.gif

I would LOVE to do this since I print a lot for artists and photographers. I wish it were on the east coast. My other half wasn't thrilled about me traveling that far.:cry

Santa Barbara airport is minutes from the location. LAX will take you 2 hours by the time you get a car, etc.
