Thank you all so much for your kind words, it's very much appreciated. As pleasant as it is to tell friends and family I think it's really only fellow photographers you can truly share this kind of news with, especially Dgrinners, that's why I love this forum and how generous everyone is.
I'm still a wreck, and am half expecting another phone call telling me they're awfully sorry but they mixed my entry up with someone else.
I should imagine I'll be getting a few more visitors to my site, I think I'd better do some work on it ASAP.
Congratulations Charlie!!! It's nice to be recognized by others when doing something you love, but to be honored as Photographer of the Year by a major publication is truly an amazing accomplishment.
Wow, what an amazing feeling it must be to get recognized like that... and then to find out you get a lot of money for it too. Congratulations! Now I'm going to look at that gallery you posted some more... beautiful pictures!

A massive CONGRATS to you Charlie. Your work is gorgeous! Some of it has a 4x5 feel to it, which I love. Fantastic stuff and I truly hope you're enjoying the ride!
Thanks again guys, this is ridiculous, the ceremony was last night and I still don't know which was the winning image out of the three I entered
I'm waiting for a call today and I'm hoping that after that I might calm down a little, be able to eat properly and enjoy the moment some more, what a wuss.
Sorry Mark, what a plonker I am, forgot to link it from a gallery that allows sharing, doh! I locked myself out of my house earlier as well, it's a worry.

Had a look at that gallery (as well as the rest of the site) - you've got incredible compositions! Very well deserved.

Finally, here's the winning image, hope it's not too much of an anti-climax :-
