How many photographers does it take to change a light bulb? 50. One to change the bulb, and forty-nine to say, "I could have done that better!"
i'm still waiting for mine. i'm #86 in line at calumet but they didn't get anywhere near that number of units last friday when they shipped. and of course nps members got first dibs...

If you can't produce a clean image at 25600, well I just don't know. :ivar

Yep, iso6400 is absolutely usable best I can tell. iso12800 would be fine for small web/small news. I'll know more this week after full shooting tests with Duke basketball. I'll see what I can get away with indoors/lowlight.

processing to speak of and I've gotta say, those images were great. Hardly
any noise worth mentioning.
This looks like a real winner. The D3 does.
I do I do!!

I was hopeful but fairly skeptical for the past 3 months. I placed my order the day it was announced since I figured it'd be at least as good as my D2X and even for just 9fps I wanted the upgrade. As the hi-iso stuff started to creep out there I was still skeptical but more and more hopeful. I'm literally in disbelief and now one of those guys that can say "I can't believe my eyes."
I've been shooting with auto-iso all AM and setting the max at 6400...my office is pretty dark and all the shots are coming in around iso3200-iso5500. They're all fantastic. It's stunning. And so far auto-iso seems much more spot on that previous bodies... I dialed in f-stop/ss and it hasn't missed an exposure yet with auto-iso.

I used to really like my D200. Let's see. What's the guide number for an SB800 at ISO6400??
Natural selection is responsible for every living thing that exists.
D3s, D500, D5300, and way more glass than the wife knows about.
I still love the D200...but damn...

I'm gonna stick with my D70s until something useful comes along...
I have to admit I envy you greatly. About six months ago I worked selling cameras and telling customers that Nikon most likely had a full-frame camera in the works and that we would see in the near future... all I can say is that Nikon did not disappoint.
I do have one question that did not show up in any of the reviews or forum posts that I have seen:
I love my d200 but sometimes I wish that the viewfinder was bigger and brighter like the old manual 35mm cameras... is the D3's viewfinder noticably bigger and brighter or does it still feel like it's digital and dark?
It HUGE! It's so much more noticeable that the D200/D2 line. Simply stunning looking thru the viewfinder...and the rear LCD is ginormous/bright. There's so many reasons to go from a D2X/h to D3 that I can't even begin. Nikon absolutely nailed this one...

Will do...it's been very overcast/cloudy the past two days so not a great test. Was perfectly viewable outdoors in those conditions so I've been waiting for direct sun to see how it does.

Did a quick daylight test...while I certainly wouldn't call it true daylight viewable it's better/brighter than my D200/D2X. I can absolutely view it.
