As a follow-up, I took some random samples of nothing special from around the house/office. Trying to test auto-iso and hi iso performance. So far flawless. These are all just jpg converts with Hi ISO Noise Reduction set to "Normal" to show that you really have to pixel peep to see noise. Tomorrow will be the real test, i.e. work. :)

    :D

Here's one from tonite...haven't gone thru them all yet as the 25MB NEF files are too slow on my laptop. The D3 was just unreal.
    Nikkor 200mm/f2, 200mm, f2.8, 1/2000s, iso3200 (shot at 1600 all nite...dialed up to 3200 for a while for grins)

I'm just...uhhh...well...ummmm...can't think of anything to say...its hard to read shutter speed 1/2000 in the gym over there and then see a pic that looks like ISO200...no color shift...perfect focus acquisition...golly...that thing is truely remarkable!

    Indeed...thanks! wings.gif

I'll say much of it is the lens as well...I brought the 85/1.4, 70-200/2.8 and 50/1.4 as well as the 200/2. I'm still going thru the images but at 2.8 the 200/2 is remarkable (wide open as well but I've always had better luck at 2.8). It really does shame those other lenses. I dialed it up to 3200 really just as a test as I could've easily come back to 1600 with SS to spare. iloveyou.gifiloveyou.gifiloveyou.gif

holy freakin' crap is this an awesome camera!!! wings.gif got a call from my guy at calumet saying it was shipping yesterday afternoon and the UPS guy dropped it off this morning. just charged the stock battery (got the spare still in the charger) loaded it up with a couple of 8gb cards, got a coupe of full frame lenses in the bag. i don't think my wife is going to see much of me this weekend.

omg... iso 3200... now i've got to worry about my 3 sb-800s collecting dust. rolleyes1.gif

Yep, iso6400 is absolutely usable best I can tell. iso12800 would be fine for small web/small news. I'll know more this week after full shooting tests with Duke basketball. I'll see what I can get away with indoors/lowlight.

None of you know me - I'm new to this. Anyway, the D3 ISO level capability looks simply amazing. bowdown.gif

    I'm looking forward to a new D300 for Christmas - can't wait.

Both new Nikon cameras are pretty amazing in their own right.
