Weevil - MPE-65

The other night I found a very very small Weevil outside.
I pulled off a piece of a plant and brought it inside so I could photograph
my new found friend :D

I am not sure what kind of Weevil it is, but it was really quite tiny.
Later on I was surprise to find out this Weevil could actually fly.

It was at this point that I took it outside and let it go :D

Canon 40D + MPE65 + Canon Twin Flash.

Enjoy ........ Skippy

    Wow that’s amazing!
Practice makes perfect, this sure looks like you have been practicing with that lens (yes I am jealous Nikon does make something similar… do they?).

Beautiful shot Skippy. clap.gif Can't wait to get a lens that will do that. It was nice of you to invite him in for a while, and even nicer of you to let him go again. What did you put him on to shoot? Thanks for sharing.

I can see you are getting used with that lens Skippy. I am getting mine at the end of this month to attach to my 40D. I am hoping and praying I can turn out similar shots to you. I do think some of these creatures are quite frightening when you see the detail in full.

Thank you ngoede.... I have not seen one of these weevils before.
Close up his body had quite an interesting covering.

    Almost scale like.
On the original the more you magnify it the more rod shaped those things are.

Hi there teamracephotos, I don't think Nikon make a Macro like the MPE-65,
I am pretty sure Canon has this all on its own.

Most macro lenses are 1:1 (Life) but this is 1:5 .

    Seeing this little creature live,
you would never have known it looked like it does in this photo,
    because he was quite small.

Glad you liked it thumb.gif .... Skippy :D

Thank you Brian, the bugs are just few and far between I tell ya ne_nau.gif
I'm off to the Zoo next week, got a couple of days off.
Gonna try out the 40D with the 70-200, and the 400mm.

I should take the MPE-65 along anyways,
as they usually have a lot of flowers around if I recall.

    I need more bugs I tell you rolleyes1.gif .... Skippy :D

    Thanks Gary.

I often bring the bugs inside the house to shoot them.
I have a cardboard box missing two sides so the front and the top of the box are open.

The box is lined with white card board,
because I tried to use it as a light box at some stage.

The black background is a Black T Shirt :D
I hang it over the box then push it into the box so it drapes.

Then I get my Helping Hands -- see the link below http://www.cheshiremodels.co.uk/acatalog/CL2228.jpeg

The Helping Hands for me are a must have when working inside.
They can hold things in place and on angles you cant hold still at,
freeing your hands up to do the shooting thumb.gif

Those Helping Hands are often found in those $2 shops,
cheap... I'm pretty sure that's about all we paid for them.

I always let the bugs go, most times I will keep them for a couple of hours, then release them, at the most I will keep them up to 2 days.

If I cannot get the shot I want, my deadline is 2 days and you let them go reguardless. nod.gif .... Skippy :D

Hi Bob, well I gotta say the spiders are much more frightening
because you have to get a whole lot closer to them.
My worry is that will jump on the camera,
while your concentrating on getting it in focus rolleyes1.gif

Hi Ann, I haven't really had much of chance to go shooting.
Bugs are not so easily come by, cause I don't have much of a garden.

There is no AUTO focus with the MPE-65,
getting the focus correct is a lot harder than I thought it would be,
especially once you get to around 3x life.

Gonna try some big stuff next week at the Zoo, weather permitting.
The Canon 40D is much faster to lock onto a subject than the 20D.

Thanks for looking Ann thumb.gif .... Skippy :D

Well at between 1-2.5x life isn't too bad but closer than that is more difficult.
