Yeah, I heard of it about a year ago, when I think it was Mac only. I tried it, it's cool.

As far as I can tell from reading on their site, it's a plugin/addon for firefox... you don't "set it up" for your site... you load it on your computer and it "just works" on compatible sites.

    from their site...
"PicLens is the web's premier media browsing experience. Install it on your browser to take media full-screen on popular sites like Google Images, Flickr, Facebook, and more."

So I install it on my Firefox browser and look at your site using it... I can look at other sites (Andy's and Mike Lane's) w/o issue... it partially works on mine... on my homepage, but not in my galleries... and sort of works on your (their icon appears when I hover your thumbs, but the "window" that opens show blank pics...).
I e-mailed the company as they say it's supposed to work w/ Smugmug, but it only displays and enlarges the thumbs on the page... to they look really bad...

i just started playing around with it. If I use it on my site it gets most of but not all of the thumbs but when I double click to view a larger image it gets smaller.

If I use the search tool in Piclens to find my pictures it does give the large view. ne_nau.gif

You have to log out for it to work properly. Works great with All Thumbs. Really neat stuff.

    To recap:

    - Download PicLens plug-in
    - Go to one of your SmugMug galleries with a lot of photos
    - Make sure you're logged out
    - Select All Thumbs view
    - Hover over one of your photos, and when it shows up, click on the "Play" button
    - Marvel!

    Hi,

This is my first post, but I have been leerking for a while now, Great site and great people. I owe many of you a lot of money I would have otherwise spent on headache medicine.

    On the Piclens note,

As great as Piclens is, has anyone noticed that if you use Piclens to view your own photos, it also finds the images in you hidden catagories? Would anyone know of any modifications that I could make to prevent that?

    Cheers

Nope. Does not work for me. Hover over photo and get blurry photo. Double click then get smaller blurry photo. I was hoping to suggest visitors to my site use this browser but I think I will wait 'till it is a little more refined.

Andy, I did and you can the photos in the hidden catagories, however I noticed that if I apply a passord to the hidden galleries, Piclens does not show them.

    Thank you!

If you're not familiar w/ the plugin you can see info about what it's supposed to do at their site www.piclens.com
I've loaded it and enabled it.
It works on the popular pics on my homepage, but not in any of my galleries. Does not matter if I'm logged in or out nor does it matter if the gallery allows links or not...
If you load it and try it on your site you'll see it works (although not well as it only pulls from the thumbs).
I can not figure out why it works for yours and not mine...
If I put the .smugmug in the name of my gallery it works for some galleries, but not others.
I e-mailed piclens and they seem to think it has to do with the feeds????

Here's the thread where I asked about the feeds...

Wow! I tried it, and it works just fine with FF and IE7 under Win XP.
You just need to select a correct browser version first and only then download it. Works great with my Smugmug site! clap.gif

I can get it to work correctly only if I un-click the "protection" in the gallery customization...ne_nau.gif
Any it will only use the thumb images unless I am using the .smugmug in my url...

Hmm. I almost never use protection, so I wouldn't know.
    I'm using it against nik.smugmug.com, so, again, I haven't encounter the issue...ne_nau.gif

When I go into your galleries, it doesn't work at all. ne_nau.gif

On 2nd look at your homepage, it acts odd there. It gives several photos, but if you scroll to the right there are lots of blanks. Then when you get clear to the end there is a smattering of photos.

Definitely odd behavior. Nothing like when I view my own pages.

One thing that sucks, compared to dare I say it, Flickr, is that even after switching to "all thumbs", Piclens does not show *all* of the photos in a gallery, only the ones for each page of thumbs that you're on.

Also, if you have zoomed thumbs, double-clicking on a thumbnail in Piclens will not take you to the full-sized image.

In contrast, a Piclens view of a Flickr "set" will include *all* the photos in the set, and the full-sized image always comes up, which makes for a much more dramatic demonstration of the Piclens UI.

I imagine that just some tweaks in the RSS feeds or how Piclens interprets them would fix this.

Still have not been able to get this work right. I can go to a gallery of mine and click the arrow and PicLens will fire up but it only brings up low res images. If I searched for of my galleries in the PicLens Browser the hi res images were available. Now I just tried searching for SmugMug images using the PicLens browser and nothing showed up when searching smugmug. I did a search for "Seattle" and images showed up for every photosite except smugmug. I'm just wondering if smugmug wants PicLens to work on its images.ne_nau.gif

I'd like to see this working too.. same problem with the low-res thumbnails. Protection turned off for the purposes of testing..

I betcha last security changes are the culprit. Everything needs a major overhaul to accomodate for those "keys" ne_nau.gif
