Shima's fantastic capture prompted this idea for a thread.

I'm interested to see some career-best basketball action shots. So, if you haven't already sold the rights to it, post it here!

I'll start (as I have a two-month career as of today):

    Thanks.
I used an f/1.8 85mm lens set at f/2.0, ss 1/500, ISO 1600. Although I'd love to use the 70-200 f/2.8, most of the gyms I've been in are too dark, and I've gone to the 85mm, which has yielded much more consistent results.

That is sweet. From my own experience Women's hoops can be difficult to shoot and produce images the show the drive and energy that you find in mens hoops, partly because with the men you can display in images of dunks and driving thru the paint way more often.
    Nice Capture.

Thank you. Definitely...I have quite a few men shots that I'm proud of but I just don't have the volume of women shots that show attacking the basket. Plus it's straight out of body/no crop and nice/clean at iso3200. :) This is one of my favorite shots of the men...mainly because of the interesting angles...

CaptureNX NR set to "low"...I believe there is a touch of USM as well now that I recall. I can't really tell any practical difference between iso800/1600/3200 on the D3 so I've been sticking with 3200 for most action work.

Yeah I think women's hoops is one of the hardest sports too shoot because of that. You are trying to create similar exciting images that you get with men, but you just dont get the opportunties. When I first started shooting womens hoops I really strugged with that, but then I found other aspects of the game to focus on.

    Great shots everyone!
It's interesting to see the variety of basketball levels. A D-1 basketball team is going to make for a different style of photography than a girls' JV or 6-year-old hoops game.

    Keep them coming!

Well, I wouldn't expect to hear those exact quotes around the West Fourth St. basketball courts, but you get the idea. Having "taken" much from this forum, I am always pleased to be able to give back. So big up, yo! (Note: "Big up" is vastly different from "mad ups", so once again I feel like I am contributing hugely to the collective knowledge base "up in here"!rolleyes1.gif ).
