I'll ask around when school resumes from Spring Break next week. Sounds like a good cause.

Hey Gus, I have the camera but I can't find all the parts like the USB cable or software. If they have a card reader, I think that it's okay and I think they can download software. Does that work for the kids?

Absolutely CK...different people have been sending bits with all their cameras & no doubt there will be a USB cable there or 4.

    Thankyou !!

Im going to try & get a photo of all the kids using d/grins old cameras when i get there.

Anyone have any old CF cards that are no longer being used ? They dont have to be big but the kids have plenty of cameras now but this has caused them to run a bit short on memory cards...particularly CF cards.

So that old 256 card is still extreamly valuable...just not so much to your DSLR thats all. Anyway if you have any would would like to donate please post to :

Also any old tripods...not big ones but those tiny little ones that you see about the place for a few dollars which hold a point & shoot would be greatly appreciated by the kids.

    Thank You

Gus - are all the cameras they have at the moment using CF cards? I move too often to have old cameras lying around but I do have some smaller capacity SD cards if they'd be useful

Absolutely hjb. They can use anything. A majority of the cameras use CF but they do have cameras that need SD.

    Thank you very much.

I got a very nice and very long personal note from Caroline, along with a photo that one of her students took. It was such a pleasure to get something with a Vanuatu stamp on it, let alone the obvious care that she and her student put into the note/picture.

    Coolness.

I know Smug gave them a pro account. Do you know if they ever set that up?

Ditto here. For a while I was wondering if the camera made it there, then I finally forgot all about it. Then the note and picture. David thanks for the link to their photos.

G'day Mike...the actual story is that i visited Caroline at youth voices a few months ago & met with all her students. I wanted to get some photos of the youth group & equip as a thank you to the d/grin donations which i intitiated in this thread. They all offered their heartfelt thanks to all those that sent equipment. It is all being used.

I am off to Vanuatu again in 4 days and am visiting the youth centre again with more supplies. I am also going to hitch-hike the main island staying in villages and photograph/write about its people. They are truly the most beautiful people on the planet.

I asked Caroline what else the group could use that many of us have lying wasted in the bottom of our cupboards. She said that they would be very grateful for any old tripods...not $1000 Gitzo's but ANYTHING...even the plastic $5 photo counter specials basket would be fantastic as they just need to support Point & Shoots for learning longer exposure. They are also still keen for ANY old memory cards...even 128's help them a lot & of course any old unused digitals.

Here are some photos from last visit.

    And busy learning some editing.

I came across this interesting article about this place I sent an old camera off to. Though others might appreciate learning more about Vanuatu. thumb.gif

    Where's Gus?
The revival of this thread got me to wondering what ever happened to Gus? He used to be sooo active and then nothing since last October!
