Depending on what functions you need. This might be a good read from another fourm on the 430EX and 580EX vs the 580EX II with a 40D. Something I was not aware of.

Is this with the wide panel flipped down? Canon states it diffuses to 14mm coverage (FOV equivalent, so ~9mm APS-C) I'm just now getting an ultra wide (10-22) mailed to me, and would be interested in having your results
This is with the wide panel flipped down. I can put up some images if you're interested, but that won't be soon as I've just gotten back from five days in the bush - the pics from this trip are far more exciting mwink.gif

BTW, it definitely won't be 9mm equivalent on APS-C, but that's rather irrelevant as neither the Canon 10-22 nor the Sigma 10-20 are suitable for "FF" cameras.

    Hi Gang,

I've merged the two "flash question" threads as they are similar and both
have some good info in them.

I was just saying that when canon says 14mm FOV they mean it should cover out to 14mm on full frame, which would mean a 9mm lens on APS-C (at least, this is my translation) since the actual field of view is what matters to the flash, none of this specs business.

Interesting information though, thanks for that info, it's not like I'm planning on using direct flash at 10mm anytime soon, but that one time in my life that I try, I at least won't be surprised :D
