Oh wow, this is just such a downer to hear that Dgrinners have been bombarding you mods with PMs about the LPS.
To be completely fair, we expected to deal with some amount of sturm und drang, and were prepared for it. We don't mind the questions, concerns, suggestions, comments. But I must say that what transpired as the year+ progressed was simply amazing to us
Prime example of a few, ruining the fun for all. =c( Hopefully we cn somehow earn back the right to this contest. Either way, I want to thank you guys (DoctorIt, Shay & Andy, all the judges and all the participants). I learned so much in the past year. And I'll keep trying new things in the current contest. Here is hoping for LPSIII next year
I just found out, and though I have few posts I have been reading posts on this site daily for a while now. I didn't compete in the last 5 or so rounds of LPS because I was just beginning and a little overwhelmed by the talent here. So I waited and Practiced. LPS or not I will still read and learn from this site and anxiously await challenges to learn more and more.
Thanks to all who run and contribute to this site.
good job!
So sorry to hear about all the major hassles and the resulting decision to not have LPS II. I am thankful to have participated (a little) and observed (a lot) over the past year and I look forward to whatever sorts of challenges you do present. For the work you mods do, and for the crud you have dealt with - Thank You.
Elaine
Comments and constructive critique always welcome!
I felt that comming, reading all the comments in certain threads lately. I figured that bad comments were like cockroaches - if you see one (thread), there are thousands you dont see (PM). Hopefully not literally thousands for you guys, but I wouldn't be surprised.
I think I'm still considerably new to the site, but I'm available to help out on the new stuff if you need/want it.
Loved LPS, but saw towards the end the more and more open complaining. Now months after the fact people still complaining At least you guys (Andy,Erik) can now hopefully get a rest from all that and I hope the people who were never ending the barage of PMs can just learn to chill out.
Well, durn. I was sort of expecting this as a result from continuing debates and rule analysis that surfaced here and there, but I was still holding out hope that things would pull through. So sorry to hear there was more skittering about behind the scenes that just broke down the resolve of our helpful hosts. :cry
I loved this contest and the participants, in addition to the guidance and feedback from Shay, Erik, and Andy. I will sorely miss it.
Well, crap! I joined dgrin after LPS 1 was already over, and after looking at all of the entries from last year, I was REALLY looking forward to LPSII...it's really too bad about all of the PM's...unfortunately when money is involved, so is greed, as well as jealousy, which is where the problem seems to be rooted. I hope to see some great dgrin challenges coming up! If you had already figured out some of the contrasting themes for LPSII before it was nixed, could we see some of those as challenges instead? They really seem to get people to think outside of the box, and spark creativity!
Thanks to all the mods as well...even though I was not part of last years contest, nobody should have to put up with what you have had to. People have to realize that this forum is not your full-time job!
We're all here, part of this forum, because we share a common love of photography...correct? Thankfully, we have a vast wealth of free knowledge on the subject at our fingertips! We should feel lucky that the mods are here to keep everything in order.
Thanks to all those with good comments, and I do apologize that we won't be having an LPS2.
However, lets not focus on negative. There was more to our decision than a few bad apples.
I, for one, was determined that if there was going to be a second LPS, it had to be bigger and better than the first one. I won't go into details, but suffice to say, we just felt we couldn't improve it enough to justify it. LPS was not about to become a routine thing on dgrin, no way. If we ignore that other thread going on right now for a moment, lets say, we wanted it to go out on a high note.
It's to bad about about LPS becoming a pain.
It seems like when ever there's money or prizes involved, the envy thing shows up.
LPS was good to me, knocked me down a peg or two. It's over now, so lets get back to having some fun.
So, what number were we on for the Dgrin Challenge's when there were put on hold?
Thanks to all those with good comments, and I do apologize that we won't be having an LPS2.

dang this sucks. But unfortunately I am not surprised. Being a moderator on a few other forums I am amazed by the amount of headaches that come along with it.
Positive Spin
Having participated in every round except the first one, I can say from experience that LPS was a joy and an inspiration. I was looking forward to a second year but alas I at least have some great memories and some great images to show for it.
Thank you again DoctorIt, Shay, Andy and everyone else who donated their time and expertise, making it a great experience!
I'm new around here, but reviewed alot of the LPS activity and was extremely impressed. This recent BS doesn't surprise me one bit, though. In my less than 2 years of dSLR experience, I'm constantly looking for a site where I can recieve constructive criticism and improve my craft.
All of the sites I've viewed or tried to become involved in have some sort of competition. And in every single competition, someone or a group, without exception, has a bitch about the result or...after the fact...how the rules are interpreted or the winner is determined. My call is that when it comes to competition, ego is a truly ugly thing. You can NEVER please every body and the effort to do so is wasted.
I applaud the efforts of those who facilitated LPS or any contest here. I can only imagine the subsequent C R A P you've had to deal with. To those who enter ANY competition, I implore you to give it your best shot and leave your ego out of it. It's all about your art, NOT YOUR EGO.
Smooches!

I came to the LPS party late, but at least I got to do two quals and a SF. It was a wonderful concept, I loved the structure. Major kudos to you guys for coming up with it and executing - wish I'd had my eyes on dgrin earlier!
They say no good deed goes unpunished, and I guess the mods discovered that. While I'm sad to see LPS not come around again I've got to say if it really was LPS, or the prizes associated with it, that was attracting this unfavorable element to the site then I think it is for the better there not be a round two. Hit the ban button a few times and take away the prize bait for the filth that followed the chum line here. Sad that the good folks here can't have some fun on account of the bad apples, but if getting rid of the stink means getting rid of LPS or big prizes I'm all for it. Well, I guess it is easy for me to say get rid of the big prizes, it was unlikely I'd ever get close to one anyway. Well, bring on whatever challenges you've got, I've gotten to the party late and have only tried LPS here at dgrin - look forward to something different.
Big thanks to Shay, Eric and Andy! I hope your PM's calm down now! LPS was really a master stroke. Maybe in time with reflection something along similar lines can be tried at a later date.
And don't let the whiners get to you, what you guys did here was amazing.
Too bad it's ending, but even if I didn't have much time after the first couple of rounds to enter anything I thought you guys did a great job of running things. From a couple of the public threads I remember, though, I can only imagine the headache this was.
I was never going to win at LPS but it was great fun. It prompted me to shoot more, to learn more, to put myself out there a little more.
Yes the rules were loose, but that is what was good about it. It was mentioned once or twice that LPS would help prepare you for life as a pro. It would not always be fair, it would not always cater to your skill sets, knowledge, equipment, geographical location or even your time. But if you chose to compete, it most likely enhanced your abilities.
You may have grown technically, you may have grown your creativity. You may have grown your circle of friends even, but somehow I think everyone that participated got something out of it.
I know I did.
Thank you Andy.
Thank you Eric.
Thank you Shay.
Thank you judges.
Thank you to all the competitors. Even if you did not give me advice, I can say that I was inspired by just about all of you.
I'm sad to see LPS won't continue... it was a great amount of fun to watch and particpate in. I'm very thankful to Andy and Eric, the judges and everyone else who contributed.
Wow.. Left you guys alone for a day (went of the big outdoor shoot) and bahm, no more LPS...
Well, let me join those who said it was a privilege, pleasure and fun to participate in the first one , as well as express my sincere gratitude and appreciation to those who ran it . Being an admin/mod in few other forums and having organaized plenty of events IRL I know only too well how much headache comes with what seems to be a very simple thing, but more than one person is involved:-)
Let me know if I can help!
Well golly-doodle! (actual words changed to protect the illusion of my inner-cents.) I've been busy in other threads and had been so tired of this thread that I didn't even see the latest news until minutes ago. My daughter actually nosed into it and came running up to tell me...
I came into LPS mid-trip, and it came to be my glue to Dgrin, as I'm sure it was for others. Let's all remember that the glue isn't the server holding all of these posts and responses, but the good will of all the participants who choose to play maturely in the sandbox. I just resolved to ignore most of the bad stuff that came up. As a moderator, you just can't do that so easily.
Just as I'm excited to be participating in Paul's Day-In-The-Life challenge, I look forward to whatever you guys come up with.
What a SAD day for ALL the contestants who have so anxiously awaited the start of LPSII.
Well as stated before "Onward Bound".
Take Care and Warmest Regards,
Donna
You're only as good as your next photo....
One day, I started writing, not knowing that I had chained myself for life to a noble but merciless master. When God hands you a gift, he also hands you a whip; and the whip is intended solely for self-flagellation...I'm here alone in my dark madness, all by myself with my deck of cards --- and, of course, the whip God gave me." Truman Capote
Some people are good at ignoring catty comments and constant bickering. I'm not one of them though. I know it's not my place, but I have this uncontrollable desire to put ppl like that in their place. So I avoided this forum like the plague due to all the overanalising (<--not misspelled) and bickering w/ the advent of LPS.
I look forward to seeing what you guys come up with. Hopefully it will be something that the mods can enjoy too. A labor of love is much easier when you can enjoy the fruits of your labor instead of mitigating an endless line of the previously mentioned.

Sad that you, Erik and others have been hassled.
Sad that Shay cannot continue (I really hope he is okay).:cry
Sadder still that I am not really surprised by the whining and bellyaching of some. The internet can bring out the best and the worst in people.

But I will keep shooting.
Lookinh forward to whatever replaces what was a fantastic concept that was well executed by the three of you.

Andy,
This is truely sad news but we all understand!
With that said, everyone else we need to give Andy, Eric, and Shay a big warm Thank you for all they have done.
To those who helped bring this on, i hope your happy for killing the fun of LPS.

I am looking forward to whatever challenges will replace LPS. I never had much chance of winning the prizes anyway.
Perhaps the day in the life should become a semi-regular feature too?
Thanks to all of the great DGrin people for running and participating in LPS.
