Great pics! I feel bad that I work in DC and never seem to get around to playing tourist for a day. :cry There's so much to see, and your photos remind me how photogenic DC really is!

A jog through memory lane? Not!!! A subway in D.C.??? Oh my a lot has changed since I lived in the area. Enjoyed everyone's take on the tidal basin. Hope you will post some more!
Excellent, excellent shots everyone. I was trying to pick favorites, but really can't.
I really like the abstracts of the petals on the water that Schmoo and Winston captured. Davev, the memorial with the flag and burning sky is great! And so is the Washington memorial night shot.
Christina - I can't believe you got a shot of the police helicopter! I love your orchid shot.
Eyal, the midshipmen is a great shot. I may be in Boston for business 3 or 4 times a year so we should keep in touch.
Davev - love the group shot. It is too bad that Kendall and Kate are missing (and Eyal). Can I have a copy? If you send me an email, I'll send you the pano of the WWII memorial, if you want it.
Okay, I'm looking forward to seeing Katev's, Kendall's, Adam's, Cassis', and more from the rest of you.
I would like to get an 8x12 of your pano. It's a great shot.
My email is davev76 at yahoo dot com.
Second, I know, me, using a tripod and shooting RAW on the same trip. That's really why the Pope was in town, to do an Exorcism.
I'm much better now.:D
Third, a davev/katev joint effort. (kate had to do the writing, I kept spelling smugmug wrong)
No disrespect is meant to the armed forces, we were just having some fun.

wow this is really cool. I take you didnt do this in photoshop but how'd you do it
anyway now I want to come and do Night shots.... we'll will have to make another trip down there...
This weekend just a few out-of-towners came this way for some good old-fashioned shooting and sightseeing. Of course I had to join in on the fun, even though I ran out of steam about 8 hours into the 10 hours of walking.
I arrived a little early at the meeting site, the courtyard at the Smithsonian castle. I've never seen this part of town so quiet as it is at 7:30 AM on a weekend. I took some time to photograph the tulips in the Enid Haupt garden while the raindrops were being kissed by the rising sun:

Great series from everyone. Once again proving the eye behind the lens shows the diversity and imagination we all have inside us. This is definitely my favorite style of thread. People from all walks of life reminding us of the beauty that is always surrounding us.

We had a camera on a tripod, set up for a 20 exposure. On my cell phone, the background that I use for the screen is mostly white, so I can use it as a flashlight if I really need to. I also have it so it stays lit for 30 seconds.
So, I press the shutter, Kate opens the phone and starts writing, making sure that she doesn't get in the way and block light from the phone back to the camera.
I feel like such a slug now. I was in Arlington/DC for 10 daze for work and had a free weekend in March and never even took a photo on the Mall. Great pics one and all.
I think Cassis really has a future as a photographer there! Great collection of shots! I never even noticed the letter at the memorial.
BB don't feel bad. I've lived in Baltimore for 10 years, never lived farther than 4 hours away from DC my whole life and the last time I visited the Mall was probably when I was 5...

thanks... yeah I saw that letter as we were taking cover from the Rain... Eyal was kind enough to hold his umbrella over me so I could shoot it... (THANKS!)

Nice job. I too like the wall shot as well as the relief photo.
Nice job Ann!! These are the moments all of us would love capture!!
I was wondering if they would know a bunch of photographers were shooting them!
I'm so glad you got in touch with them.
Thanks, Adam and Schmoo
I have their contact info, Schmoo, if you'd like it. Cassis got in touch with them too.
And I've just asked their permission to submit it to Kodak for POTD.
It really was cool to watch that unfold - I am not really comfortable with street photography, but am so glad I seized that moment!

What's the world coming too????? DaveV? RAW??? Mr. jpeg???
What happened???
I only put them up at a 1200x800 size, but I've been happy with the 8 x 12's that I had printed through Smugmug at that size.
