Mini Challenge #1 - BIF's (Birds In Flight)
This challenge will close on Saturday, May 10th at midnight.
Any post that has a date of May 11th is ineligible.
At some time on the 11th, I'll post the winner in a new thread titled: <<< MINI CHALLENGE #1 Winner >>>
This mini challenge is about the capture of birds in flight.
~~~~~
*RULES*
1. Have fun sharing and seeing what others share!
2. The host supplies a topic and you post 1-3 images. The host judges the winners (1st, 2nd and 3rd) and is not eligible to enter.
The 1st place winner then chooses the next topic, judges the winner and passes on the baton to the new champion.
3. Any photo you’ve taken is eligible, regardless of when taken or camera used.
4. Any amount of post-processing is allowed. However, it is helpful if you list your camera and lens along with your photo.
You may comment on other contestant's images. If you want someone to leave you some criticism, put an asterisk (*) next to the title of the image.
Guidelines:
1. When posting your picture in this thread, change the Subject of your post to display your picture title.
2. Either embed your image in the thread or, if you must, supply a link to it. Keep in mind, however, most people don't want to click to open photos hosted elsewhere (i.e. on your website).
3. Also try and resize your photos prior to posting so they're sized appropriately for viewing without having to scroll (~800 pixels on the longest side works best.)
* The winner has up to three days (72 hours) to begin a new mini-challenge, or the honor goes to the #2 finisher and so forth.
* Enter 1-3 photos and put them in a single post.
* Please remove any photos from previous posts.
A few examples of BIF's that I have taken.
Have fun.
Nope.
Put all of your entries into this thread. I've edited #1 in guidelines to hopefully say that better.
If your start out entering one shot, and then decide to enter another, just edit your post and add to that post.
People can comment on your shot right in the main thread, kind of like we're doing here.:D
Thanks for helping out.
I take it this means that, as opposed to LPS, the images may or may nod be "fresh"?
Ok, I'll be the first to jump in here mainly because I have a side question. But first...
Because we startled each other I like to call this one "Shoot From The Hip".
These were taken at another time in another place. Since he was looking for a handout,
he didn't mind posing.
Now for the question... I'm relatively new here and have seen the term "LPS" used on many occasions. I'm sure that it will be a Doh! moment when you tell me but, just what the @#$% does LPS stand for. Thanks!
Last Photographer Standing - It was a great contest that ran through most of last year and into this year. There was open (anyone could enter) rounds that would qualify you for a semi and the semi's would qualify you for the final round. The qualifying rounds had some interesting themes.
I came upon it when it was half way through, but it helped me grow and I loved it. There were a ton of awesome photos created. Go to http://dgrin.smugmug.com/Dgrin%20Galleries/297262 and you can see the photos.
You take it correctly.
Any camera, at any time.
Enter a scanned shot, a shot from a Sony FD-88 (yes I had one), or a shot you took today.
They're all good.
Enter some shots, comment on others, get this board rolling again.
You win!
We are very much beginners in all this, so would love some feedback. We took this pic on vacation in London around christmas. It was overcast pretty much the whole time we were there, and we'd had our DSLR for about 2 months by then.
The full size picture (in our gallery) is here (along with all the Exif, etc). I did some post-processing on it, mostly levels and an unsharp mask, though the details escape me at this time. Suggestions on any other post-processing is also welcome (either in this thread, in our gallery, personal messages, just whatever.)
Nowhere near as good as the examples but here are mine
Those are some intense eyes. Good color. Faster shutter speed would have been good, but you can't always control that =c) In this case though I think i would have tried to up the iso, a little noise beats a little blur
Just re-read the rules, and saw the thing about putting stars on titles for feedback, I may have overdone it =c/ well hopefully it'll be alright =c)
Here are mine. The 3 best ones were all from one day out in Cancun, Mexico.
This is by no means anywhere close to the quality of the pictures that have already been displayed here. I just wanted to join in on the fun. (don't really expect to win). Anyway, we were at the beach in Florida when we decided to feed the birds our leftover lunch. My sister took this with my P&S. That's me, 2 of my kids and a friend.
I am stunned every time I look at this. Extraordinary and magnificent. An iconic pic. An exceedingly fine capture in every way. I would much like to see the EXIF. I notice the bird is tagged. what's the story about that?
Strick
Captures the beauty and personality of the bird. I wonder if tweaking the camera settings might have got a sharper image (? higher ISO, smaller aperture, faster shutter ?). A catchlight from a flash might have given more life to the eye. Also some judicious post processing graded coloring of the background would have cured some of the starkness and made the image as a whole more pleasing to the eye.
pyro
Very cute. A touch of humor. The "characters" have personality. What about cloning out the bird bottom L? The image could have been a tad sharper, and I'd like to see more recovery from the piles.
jwear
This is a superb capture. Dynamic. Poetic. It's photographic ballet! (If you added separators between your photos in your post by hitting enter above and below in the posting/composing/editing window a few times it would frame your images better, I think.)
Thanks to you and all the entrants for some beautiful photography.
