I can't imagine how many outtakes there must be for this shot! Great capture!<o:p></o:p><o:p></o:p>

Thanks for the feedback, Emily. Believe it or not that picture took about 15 minutes. It's so much easier when you stick a wire in the ping pong ball and them clone it out in PP.

Thanks Greensquared! I took one quick picture of that sailboat while being out with a couple fellow photographers to give one of em an idea of how far the external flash could be effective as opposed to her pop-up flash. I was going to delete it, but kept it so I could see the ISO 3200 results when I got home. WHen I got home I realized it might fit the contest theme. I smacked myself for clipping the top, but entered it anyway because I still felt it had a chance. headscratch.gif

    My faves:
Fashiznits - Pooh Bear - I saw this and I knew it would be an interesting round to see if anything could top it. That dang bubble in the drop kept stealing the show though!
    306389755_MJfrE-200x200.jpg

bfjr - got ya (crane) - got my eye too thumb.gif
    307915457_fAj8n-200x200.jpg

povertybarn - caffeine - I came back to this picture over and over. Really like the lighting. I worked for Coke for quite a few years and presentation was everything. All those cans would have to be turned in the same direction (which consequently I think would have made this picture even better) although I don't know if you had the ability to turn them. that one thing makes it hard to choose between yours and Pooh Bear for me.
...Even if you had the tops turned to form a geometric shape like a triangle (thinking out loud here)... thumb.gifthumb.gif
    309030107_7q6KE-200x200.jpg

shatch - downpour - The silver umbrella was an interesting choice, but helped it pop in my eyes. That may become the new style for rain umbrellas! If I wasn't a photog I wouldn't even think studio umbrella.
    309044674_SjGum-200x200.jpg

pemmett - wet - really cool to see how the drops flipped the word around.
    309952150_EFX5T-200x200.jpg

douglas - tubular - Just an interesting take on it.
    308971703_UucqX-200x200.jpg

pyroprints - fractals - Is that shell real? I can never find a good shell like that.

richtersl - steel girder - The shapes, the repetition, the black and white treatment was really pleasing to look at.
    313121464_VaP8u-200x200.jpg

rockporters - after the rain - simple shot water droplets were so neat and fresh

biotemp - surf & sand - I really liked the composition and colors throughout

sunset sailor - pale companion - I liked the colors from warm to cool and the lines. I didn't think that the moon added anything to it.

WildWally - The “MONOLITH” to the moon - I do think the moon added to this. Nice shot!

I'm not seeing fluid or geometric here. Sorry. <o:p></o:p>

I don't think that my photo belongs in the top group, but I think it's a sad thing when the judges don't even understand the assignment.

headscratch.gif this is not an assignment....its not go out and find something that you believe to be the topic....
like "oh here is a cloud it is fluid so it will do"....

this is a contest to wow someone with a photograph, something that inspires....

so relax... go try again...and dont be a downer

Now hold on just a second - before I reply on this topic, let me make it clear that we will not tolerate anyone being negative about our volunteer judges. There would be no challenges and not much of a forum if it weren't for folks who put in time and effort for zero compensation.

So on the topic of topics, d, perhaps you are unaware, but our judges volunteer their time to simply look at the entries and choose the 10 best photos. There are no judging guidelines or "rules". It's a simple yet effective system.

Then of course there's always that fact: it's a photo competition. It's subjective, what is geometric or fluid to you is not so to everyone else, so it is very unfair of you to say that someone doesn't understand something and that it is sad.

Well, okay, maybe not EXACTLY what it was, but it did seem to be some sort of grate with maybe playground equipment in the background. At first it seemed to be like diamond plate, but then I realized it was a rusty metal grate in the foreground the has a bend in it with bright colored "somethings" in the background. Am I WAY off???

    Thank you all ,,,,
Who found my photo likeable !!!! This was really my first time compositing 2 photos together believe-it-or-not . So I am extremely happy that the results made a few look twice ... The building that I photographed is so unique in real view , I just hope I gave it justice to the uniform lines/angles that "makes" it so unique . to Greensquared (Emily I presume) and VelvtRide , thank you 2 so much for taking the time and effort to judge the photos and critique each of them ... It was hard I am sure to choose a top 10 , as there are some great photos here , with much good talent . And to anyone whom commented on my photo , thank you much !!! What a great forum to be part of !!! "Walt"

I remember the same pumpkin picture - you were lucky it only took you 40 secs. I had to wait till someone actually wrote what it was which was like days later<img src="https://us.v-cdn.net/6029383/emoji/rolleyes1.gif&quot; border="0" alt="" >

That said, we shouldn't necessarily have to know what the picture is about, as long as it tells a story which is in line with the theme - which is of course open to interpretation, which is of course why this competition is so <s>frustrating</s> fun to be part of :D

The underside of the paited steps to a playground slide.....how ever the only way to decipher that was to open the original to actual pixels....which of course this was never meant to have done....:D:D:D

hey Art....loved the entry, but why have such a distracting background?

It was not meant to be viewed in actual pixel rez.......by looking at what I posted from about 12-14 feet from the monitor it was still just a sea of gold, blue and red waves with an "L" bend in it.....the background is not so noticeable......I have figured that this abstract will only truly work as a large print....where the viewing distance can be sort of controled and no one can open to actual pixel rez to destroy the effect......that is why I had been trying to figure out what was wrong or the difference when I viewed the thumb as opposed to the larger versions on SM......then I was told to back off a few feet and on my monitor I had to back up 16' [for my monitor] to see the bend in the photo as posted here for the challenge.....so I knew it had no chance and I did not have time to create another entry......ne_nau.gif tis life and it got me to work on something for myself.............

It is a shame that folks think that THEY have the only right interpretation of the challenge [fluid is not liquid ] or that the judges do not see what you place in your shot . The bottom line is, that it is up to them and what they see is IT. Just have fun and post your shots but do not say the judge know not or did not see ,next time send them $ and they may get it ??
Do not make comments about the judges unless they are good ones thumb.gif
