Hi Swinton, we're about to roll out one change that will make the payment page smoother and easier -- it had to do with the order password field, which is going away.
As to losing cart, sadly, if they did the same in the old cart the result would have been the same - somehow they lost their cookie which saves the cart info (can happen on close of browser, depending on setup).

WOW !!
Great new tweeks to the cart (and the release notes said 'we might not notice')
1- "prints & gifts" link now goes to catalog WITHOUT prices
2- when you click on 'bulk options' only the items I offer come up !! :ivar
(instead of the whole smug catalog) why no mention in release notes?
only thing left now is the 'auto/true' color option being removed
