Hi,

I came across this lens at my camera shop yesterday and couldn't let
this once-in-x-years (?) opportunity go by without taking advantage of it.

Within the first 24 hours of having it absolutely fell in love with the images
it can produce. There weren't many interersting subjects around but I fired
away anyways. It's not the easiest task to get the focus where you want it
(for me at least) and ca's can be a pain if you don't pay attention to the
scene. But more often than not one is rewarded with an utterly smooth rendered
background ... simply bokehlicious! I hope you like looking at theses as much
as I do:

1.

10. Notice the clipping in the bokeh caused by the mirrox box:

Thanks for looking!

It seems that these halos always show up around every strong
lightsource that is in focus in a strong contrast situation (at night
for example). Things get even funkier when you have serveral
such lightsources in the frame. The rings will connect sometimes
cutting each other off at the connecting points. Maybe I should
make some pics of it tomorrow and post em here ...

These were shot with a 5DII.

I was hoping you wouldn't say that; I keep trying to talk myself out of getting one. How much focus adjustment did it require? That would certainly be critical with this lens!

I had to adjust it to -3. However, my gf has a 550D where focus is
dead on without any adjustments. There are so many variables when
dealing with used lenses I recommend to always try the lens on your
    camera before buying it.

Absolutely the correct word: "variables". I won't buy a lens unless it's still under warranty or allows penalty-free return. All of the serious brick and mortar camera stores in my area are long gone. :cry

I can certainly feel your pain Scott.

Just for kicks here is a completely unprocessed 100% crop from a RAW file @ f/1.0 (focus was on the "O"):

Great thread and congrats on the new bit of gear.

Finally someone who actually owns one rather than most who simply blather on(parroting others who have never even laid their hands on one) about how terrible this lens is.
    Christian.

Agreed, but I'm betting Manfr3d's ability has something to do with the quality of the pix as well. thumb.gif

Lol, that may have something to do with it also.

I'm fairly sure if it were me posting this thread instead I'd have churned out complete rubbish.

Absolutely! I feel shoots the way it looks (if that makes sense). Sometimes
I just go out shooting with it to see what it produces next. A fun lens to
    use for sure thumb.gif

I really like that night street shot. The colors and reflections of light. Looks great.

Not a clue what's in/on those bricks. What are those and why?

Totally understand why you would just take that lens out and shoot :D

Thanks! I have no idea myself what those things are, maybe it's
some kind of ventilation for the new wall before the final finish is applied?

I hope no one minds me updating this thread with some more pics.
