The outside shots were done with the setup shown and the inside one was with one umbrella. Exposed for the sky and then brought the light in to the same setting with a second light to add some light to the vehicles or to rim the fireman. I also added some Topaz Adjust to the Fireman.

Asked the twins to come in and play. The first two are with a beauty dish with a sock on it and an "eyelighter" reflector underneath to fill in any unwanted shadows. Also two kickers comiing in from each side on a 45. The rest were taken outside in the shade with a simple reflector and at times a fill flash on camera to get it alittle extra pop.

What type of cart is that? It looks like it has fold-down support legs? I'm planning on rigging something like this.

Tm, it's just a regular hand truck that I added two boxes to that will hold Stuff! If you can find one that has beach wheels ( very big and wide) that would be great for rough areas or sand. Try to get the biggest wheels you can. Also as light as you can find.

This one was the trusty beauty dish with a sock on it and light was above the camera lens about 16"

    1. i-qVK5HxV-L.jpg

The last two were with a small Denny octobox about 24". Don't fuss at the posing too much it was 101 outside. We both wanted to get inside.

Charles; great shots as usual but where are the 'pull backs?' With photos as good as yours, we can only learn by seeing the pull backs.

Sorry, it was a hectic day. My mother in law is down and we are heading out for a few days to give her a break and I didn't have time for much. I'll see if I did any.

    Really nice stuff Charles! Really!

Question for you. What do you find to be the difference in light from a softbox vs. a beauty dish and what determines which one you would choose for a particular shoot?

To me a soft box seems to wrap around the subject more and at times lessens the need for fill. It also is a much softer light and not as directional.

A beauty dish tends to be a bit harsher and needs a fill of some sort.

Simply use what you want when you want. No set rule there.

Trusty 4x6 box with hair lt and reflector fill
    1. i-Gtjrv4k-X2.jpg

    2. i-DbcTRWd-X2.jpg

Again with 4x6, hair lt, reflector and kicker. Added a little flood filter.
    3. i-nRKtpfX-X2.jpg

    4. i-hd8KCqV-X2.jpg

Wanted a harsher effect so much smaller softbox and no reflector.
    5. i-S2W7ZTm-X2.jpg

    6. i-3kpkKDB-X2.jpg

Shot the way you see it but extracted the fellow and dropped him into a file photo that I had taken in a warehouse. Two small strip boxes to rear of subject and a fill, small box, down in front.

    Chuck,

Why use such a busy background if you were going to extract him? Was it an afterthought?

    Love them Charles.

On a side goofy note....Must say at first glace I thought you had a door attached to a stand as a reflector...lol then realized it was an illusion and just my eyes playing tricks on me!

I was using this bkg with another outfit and I would have to spend money for a chroma key bkg which I don't need. Also it would be another bkg change to do and I'm lazy at times. With the bkg I used he was a very easy extract.
