Love the stuff with the heat distortion. Let's talk about #7. Were you realy close? I see it was shot at only 80mm. With your aperture at F11 was your DOF so narrow to get the blur on the side mirror and side pod or do you figure they were shaking?

First Thank you for taking the time to view my work. I was about twenty yards from the car so in that photo its at 1/125 the focus is on the drivers helmet and the blur on the car is DOF and on shaking it would be me not the cars they are going to fast.:D

First Thank You #1) is 1/500 f/5.6 300mm, #2) 1/80 f/14 80-200mm shot taken @86mm, #3) 1/1250 f/4 300mm 1.4 tele making it 420mm, #4) 1/1600 f/4 300mm 1.4 tele #5) same as #4 #6) same as 4and 5 #7) 1/125 f/11 80mm. Hope this helps down the road, more than anything you want to show they are moving if you set the speed so hi that it freezes everything it makes it look like it's just sitting on the track.

    Thanks again

Awesome photos - all of them! One of these years I'd like to go to another Indy car race. I was lucky enough to get to see the first ever Indy car race down in Miami when it was held at Tamiami Park. It was then later moved to Homestead. I also got to see the first Miami Grand Prix. But I think the best track to shoot at was at the 12 Hours of Sebring. There was no bad spots to shoot from, and you get to practice time exposures when it got dark as well.

I am really confused now, According to the Depth of field calculator that I am using there is no way that at the parameters you have given (focus point on helmet, 20 yards) and the EXIF data (D300, f11. 80mm) of the photo the DOF would not have been that shallow. The calculator I used says the DOF would be from about 36 to 168 feet. Do I need a new calculator or is something else is happening.

BTW overall you have some pretty nice panning skills.

Thats good, the distance really was just a guess but thanks for your hard work on figuring that out.thumb.gif

3 4 & 6 are outstanding, personally not too keen on the really tight crops but they are done well none the less.
