dgrin challenge 15, "movement"

i'm really a big fan of movement in a still photograph. sometimes, the movement is the main subject of the photograph, other times, it's a subtle component, and sometimes, it may be simply a key "extra" element, one that takes some careful viewing and appreciation.

movement is everywhere: dance, running a race, rolling the dice....a skier schussing down the moguls or flying through the air...a flock of birds...a car speeding up, or slowing down... a fox caught on the run, a hand dealing cards for poker. candles in the wind, the moon rising through the sky...a game of 8-ball...the clock ticking...the snow falling... wind-blown hair...marilyn monroe's dress being blown up to her waist...a spinning top, a game of marbles, a kite flying in the air, wildflowers swaying in the wind. playing the piano, writing a letter, painting a picture...throwing a pot on a wheel.....oh there are possibilities everywhere!

to me, a really successful "moving" image is one that doesn't necessarily "freeze" the action but rather, *shows* the action! well, i think you get the idea ;)... this challenge is wide open, so long as your image is a "moving" one!

here are some examples to get you started

a few comments and changes to note: the number of entries has been reduced from three to one. why? to encourage us as photographers to become better at self-criticism. you'll have plenty of opportunity to have your "potential entries" reviewed and critiqued by your peers in the "challenge 15 comment and critique thread." that thread is right here

please read carefully all of the challenge rules, they have been updated. the challenge rules are right here

finally - a word about the challenges. these are opportunites for us to all grow as photographers. to think outside the box, to try new techniques and styles, and to learn from each other. let's make them a positive experience for everyone, by encouraging participation, by contributing your comments and constructive critique to others, and by having a great time.

***this thread, right here, is the one into which your official challenge entry should be submitted***

so get out there, and find some movement. but most of all, prepare to learn and have fun!

enjoy (challenge) photography,

I am finding this challenge very... challenging. So far this is my personal best out of at least 200 movement shots. So here goes nothing.

Alright, you guys'll have to look for the motion, but it's there! I've taken to calling the bees that come to "The Watering Hole" "the girls", and some of the girls are caught here mid-flight. Can you see which ones?

Oh yeah, forgot to add that, not only did I go about this whole submission thing wrong, but I did nothing more than resize the photo. <shrug>

Finally ready with a submission. The EXIF data is stripped but clicking on the image will pull up an unmodified jpeg with the EXIF still in place.

    The Dance
Well I wanted to give this one a shot. Haven't had much time lately but I am hoping to get back out and shooting more photos all the time again soon (specially being as I just started dating a photographer and if things keep going good I'm sure we will both be shooting all the time). So here is my entry. Taken at 1am after 5 red bull's and a few shots of yager but I still like it anyways lol. Oh and surprising 15 drunk 20 some year olds at 1 am with a bright flash bulb isn't a good idea in case you ever find yourself in that situation. I'll save that photo for another day though.
