    Something weird
I think there was something weird on my end too (I have no idea why this would only effect my sm account and nothing else).
I guess I had clogged the pipe, since I was uploading images. However I had throttled the upload to 50% of my upload speed.
    Go figure.
Its still slow though (not uploading or doing anything).
I will try out the quality thing and report my findings.

Weird. Not for me. It popped right up, while my own is incredibly slow:
    http://store.aguntherphotography.com/gallery/2060419
    this is somewhat confusing.
    Especially bad is this page:
    http://store.aguntherphotography.com/USA/246792

In the first gallery I have already tried twice to apply the new watermark. But it always ends up in not creating all thumbnails.

Two more observations (I don't know how valid they are):
-It appears to load faster in IE then it is in FF
-It loads faster when I am not logged in (makes somewhat sense since it doesn't show all the admin stuff)

Even so, I want to report it too to be on the safe side. Speedtest claims plenty of speed and every other US site I've tested shows no slowdown. I clocked the default theme (15 thumbs and a preview) to 25 seconds. It fluctuates a bit but as is it's pretty close to unusable.

Thank you. Typical of me to manage to browse around for a week or more while pondering where to host my newfound hobby (first dslr purchased a few weeks ago), then sign up for a trial on the very night a problem occurs. Luckily I doubt I'll need 14 whole days to make up my mind. :D

There is something bigger going on here. Still, when I go to smugmug, it feels like I'm on dial-up. For me, this all started after the last scheduled downtime service.

    Hi Richard,
Can you run a line quality test from www.dslreports.com and share the results?

No, because I'm not pingable (I'm guessing it's the school firewall).

I can tell you though that their speed tester came up with this

I am also having a big speed problem. I noticed it first yesterday from a friends cable modem. I still had the slowness when I got home where I also have a cable modem. And at work this morning some of my galleries are still very slow. A page of thumbnails can take more than 30 seconds to load.

I am on a very fast connection.

    Last Result:
Download Speed: 37387 kbps (4673.4 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 7760 kbps (970 KB/sec transfer rate)

The data itself appears to be loading quickly, with very long pauses in between. 4 thumbnails will load fast, then a 10 second pause, then 4 more thumbs, etc. It's not a bandwidth issue, it appears to be server response time that in slowing things down.

To me it seems like the galleries with the biggest speed problems are the ones with full size 10mp original images.
The one that seems to have the biggest problem is this one:
    http://paulberge.smugmug.com/gallery/2065402

Here are the results of a tracert to paulberge.smugmug.com

    4 1 ms 1 ms 1 ms 12.125.184.249
    5 2 ms 2 ms 2 ms gbr1-p59.n54ny.ip.att.net [12.123.192.82]

    8 74 ms 2 ms 2 ms 12.116.238.74
    9 26 ms 25 ms 26 ms tge2-1.fr3.ord.llnw.net [69.28.171.193]
    10 * * * Request timed out.
    11 71 ms 71 ms 71 ms ve5.fr3.sjc.llnw.net [69.28.171.209]
    12 91 ms 90 ms 90 ms smugmug.ge4-1.fr3.sjc.llnw.net [208.111.152.82]

    13 71 ms 149 ms 71 ms hera.smugmug.com [63.81.134.23]

The first 3 hops are within my building and all <1ms.

Yeah, I'm seeing the same kind of thing as well, the thumbnails are slow to load, and the medium takes forever and a day. Even the directly linked pictures I put on other sites or forums are taking a minute to load.

This is both at home with my DSL and here at work with a T3.

I've been seeing that thumbnail issue since Friday night. It doesn't happen all the time, but it does happy more often than not. And many times I see delays with the medium pictures showing up or not at all. What is really strange is that the problems appear to go away if I use the Opera browser. I've even cleared my cache (on both Firefox and IE) and restarted my computer. Same results, thumbnails come in slowly on IE and Firefox... ne_nau.gif

Still slow here too. I am at work now (fiber line) so I doubt it has anything to do with the connection.
I am wondering if its just one server since the main smugmug page loads lightning fast.
