Re: Nikon D40X - Macro Lens?
Zoom lenses with a "Macro" designation, like the Sigma 70-300mm that you found, are not true macro lenses. Generally they are a poor choice for even close-up photography. What you are looking for is a true macro lens, capable of at least a 50 percent or 1:2 magnification. I use an older, used Tamron SP 90mm, f2.8 Macro,… -
Re: Unofficial LPS 13 Feedback Thread
#14 Strikeslip - Just Another Rock In Space I really enjoy the smooth transition between light and dark on the surface of the moon, but the detail is what makes me grin. Wonderful photo, I want your lenses. #16 quark - In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. Very good use of ... whatever you used. I imagine… -
Re: Importing from Flickr without mangling tags?
The trouble with both programs is that they're grabbing the data by using flickr.photosets.getPhotos and requesting tags as an extra. That gives a response like this: <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ?><rsp stat="ok"> <photoset id="72157600005068570" primary="5099085311" owner="35034347215@N01" ownername="3e" page="1"… -
Re: Horse Jumping
Hi. Sorry to hear about the kidney cancer and I really hope all is well for you now. Welcome back! Had a look at your latest shots. A couple of things came to mind: 1. several of them seem quite 'grainy' - especially the very last one. What ISO were you using? 2. if you are able to position yourself a little bit more… -
Biking in Puglia, Italy, Part 2
18) The end of the world: Santa Maria Leuca, the southeastern most point in Italy, where the Adriatic meets the Ionian Sea. The very end of the heel of the boot. 19 & 20) Puglia’s answer to California’s Highway 1: this is the one and only road that runs along the eastern coast of Puglia. It is somewhat hilly, doesn’t… -

An interesting wedding
When I got the call about this wedding I knew something would be a little less than your traditional formal affair. I happen to be available for the date & time, less than a month away. I met with the bride and her grandmother, and booked the wedding. It is to take place in a small town on the lake, outside at 10am. They… -

Toroweap Trip (lotsapics!)
Technically the trip was about shooting gorgeous landscapes, but... For me it was first and foremost about people. Hence I post it here. Mods, feel free to move! :D We took off from St.George, UT Friday 19th, soon after noon. In fact we started earlier, but a few stops for groceries and light lunch took their time. We… -
Saturday's wedding.. a bunch of pics (but they are small!)
This wedding was such a fun one. The couple were really unusual in that they didn't get all caught up in the wedding frufru and were totally (and I mean TOTALLY) in love with each other and at peace about their wedding and ultimately their marriage. It was one of those special things to witness- thier utter happiness and…
