Going Scanner Crazy
I promise to stop after this post :D When I 1st joined up, I said I was into photography most my life which is true. I also said I was never a Pro, that is not entirely true :wink Perhaps because the owner of the paper I worked for was thrown in Jail for embezzlement or maybe because it was such a short time I put it out… -
Re: Auto-levels
The default values of Auto Levels are set to 0 (the "Black Point') and 255 (the "White Point"). Too often these settings are incorrect, they make shadows too dark and the highlights too light. One of local pros down here advised me to change these settings by: Open an image and access the Levels dialogue box (Photoshop:… -
Re: Why are 50mm lenses so special?
Being an amateur (with amateur budget) I really hope that full frame will become more affordable in the future. Btw. why do you think that full frame will be the way to go? On the downside there is higher costs of lenses and cameras, loss of the sweet spot effect whereas on the upside there are "better pixels" maybe more,… -
Re: Missing Pictures - incomplete upload
Hey Nikolai, I really don't think this is a Star Explorer problem, but thank you for the quick response. I've had some time to play with the files that didn't upload and it seems that any JPG larger than 10 megabytes will not upload (the limits are 24mb and 48mp). So I don't really understand the problem. When I try to add… -
Re: Resolution - will I ever understand this?
for web display, what matters is how many pixels high & wide the image is. a 100x100 pixel image will be just over a square inch (or so) on my display, no matter what "resolution" it's tagged to be (72dpi, 96dpi, 300dpi -doesn't matter). My display puts 96 dots in each inch. Period. from what I understand, the same applies… -
Re: Blurb Books
I personally find the Blurb books to be priced according to their quality. I mean I'm happy for the price paid, but often I really do want a great looking book, and Blurb just doesn't cut it. You get what you pay for. Asuka is an awesome book and I've used them often. I like their "Book Bound Hard Cover", which has a full… -
Re: The Birdmaker
There's a couple places north of you that I'd Like to hit in late spring- I started doing the desert thing about 14 years ago. I thought it'd be like sensory deprivation, to go stand in the middle of nothing out in the middle of nowhere. I started a project to shoot all the good stuff out there and put it on the web (96).… -
Re: Canon guy thinking of a Nikon.
The Canon 7D is still the top of the crop sensor Canon bodies. It has the best AF section of any Canon crop 1.6x body, although in low light the 60D AF is very similar. The sensors of the 60D and 7D are somewhat similar, with the same pixel count and basic technology, but the 7D has more readout channels, commensurate with… -

Weekly Assignment #148: Your Worst Nightmare 2010
We did this in 2008 (#96: http://www.dgrin.com/showthread.php?t=109908). I promised to get back to it in a year, but the job (or, more specifically, the lack of thereof ;-) interfered and we never had a chance to revisit it. Now, that we're back in business, I think it's time to try it again, i.e. get a year-old image you…
